ITV Love Island's Jamie: Halifax Town confirm striker has left pre-season camp to star on show

National League side Halifax Town have made a confirmation that their forward Jamie Allen has left their pre-season camp to star on the ITV2 hit show Love Island.

Halifax Town have written a short statement on Twitter, which stated: “Jamie Allen has decided to join the cast of Love Island 2022, making his intentions clear that the opportunity is very important to him.

“The matter will be reviewed on his return.”

Jamie, 27, has played for Halifax Town since 2019, after departing Dover Athletic - however he will now miss a portion of the club’s pre-season to join the last two weeks of this series of Love Island, which takes place in a villa in Spain.

His decision to join the show was announced just six weeks after he signed a new contract with the club, who he has now abruptly left from, with the new season to kick off in just 17 days time. Love Island will continue to run until August 1, which means Jamie may return to training before Halifax begins their season away at Barnet five days after.

Love Island have also revealed that Jamie Allen would be one of four contestants to enter the glamorous villa, whose appearances were teased in last night’s episode, alongside a brutal dumping.

Jamie is in fact not the first footballer to feature on the popular reality show.

Dennon Lewis, who famously starred in Love Island’s fifth season, made his start at Watford and also signed for National League side Boreham Wood in 2021.

In addition, Aaron Simpson starred in series seven after helping Sutton United seal promotion to League Two in the 2020-21 campaign.

And of course, Gemma Owen, is not only an international dressage rider and business owner, but is most associated to be the daughter of the former England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen- also perhaps one of the favourites to win the current series of the programme.
