ITV Lorraine fans furious as Bake Off's Prue Leith shares best way to kill an animal

Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith has sparked controversy again as she advised how to kill a lobster.

The South African chef appeared on ITV's Lorraine to chat to Ranvir Singh about her latest tour. But while reminiscing about a time that she had the privilege of cooking for the royals, the Bake Off judge managed to upset viewers.

She told the anecdote of how she had to cook lobsters and took to trying to kill one before serving it up, only to be told it was actually already dead. The 82-year-old shared how to tell if a lobster is dead or alive - the colour is the key indication as they're black when alive and red when dead and cooked.

Ranvir asked the cook if a lobster had ever tried to escape from the pot before she could put the lid on. Prue said that you're not allowed to do that anymore because "they don't like it." She added: "It's supposed to be cruel or something."

She went on to explain that she had since learnt the best method for ending a lobster's life effectively. She said: "I'm sorry to say but if you're going to kill a lobster, the quickest way to do it is to stab it in the head".

Fans of the show were furious with the comments and flooded Twitter with complaints. Natalie said: "Wow Prue Leith really isn’t a lover of creatures is she! First it’s the killing of kittens, now the killing of lobsters. ‘It’s cruel or something’ she says. Really dislike her. #lorraine."

Another user said: "Joy now we have Prue talking about the best way to kill an animal #Lorraine." A third added: "F***ing hell. She’s on about killing things again. #lorraine."

It comes after she was criticised earlier in the year for comments about drowning a litter of kittens. The judge for the Channel 4 show received backlash for an excerpt in her memoir, I’ll Try Anything Once, in which she recalled a memory where her mother forced her to drown a litter of newborn kittens.

Prue described the moment as “traumatic” but fans were disturbed when the passage of text was released, leading to several complaints and calls for her to be replaced on the BBC show.

In an interview with People, she hit back at the critics as she said: “I can't bear the thought that people on Twitter really think that I would want to drown kittens. It was so awful because people were saying things like, 'I'll never watch Bake Off again.'

"I mean, what's it got to do with Bake Off? Bake Off is the kindest, most inclusive, most friendly show in the world. They wouldn't have me on if they thought I was a kitten drowner.”
