Fans of ITV Loose Women star Katie Piper have flocked to Instagram to send messages of support after the broadcaster was rushed into hospital for an emergency operation. The TV favourite outlined the news of her ordeal on social media.
Alongside a lengthy post, Kate shared two a photographs, one of herself with hospital mask dropped below her chin and patch covering her eye. She captioned the announcement: "Emergency operation for me!".
Detailing the events that began on Saturday, August 13, she wrote: "On Saturday my husband noticed a small black circle in my blind eye, I was excited thinking I had a pupil again, but by Sunday my left eye was extremely painful and couldn’t tolerate light, so I patched it up and put it down to old injuries. I’m used to being in some level of discomfort and I went to work."
However, the story continued: "By Sunday night I felt nausea and in extreme pain. I got in touch with my eye specialist @sherazdaya @centreforsightuk and unfortunately he confirmed the black circle was a hole in my eye and the eye had perforated. This had always been a fear that it would happen."

Explaining what happened next, the mum-of-two said: "Yesterday @sherazdaya sourced tissue for me and operated on me. I cannot thank him and his team enough, their knowledge and expertise but also how kind and caring they all are. There maybe some evil people in this world but there are also some pretty incredible people doing amazing things for people on a daily basis. Huge thank you team @sherazdaya @centreforsightuk You are the best!"
The OBE recipient was left blind in one eye following an acid attack at the age of 24. The event caused major damage to her face and blindness in one eye.
BBC Strictly pro Gorka Marquez soon responded to the post writing: "Sending you all the love", with singer Alexandra Burke adding: "Sending you love darling and positive healing energy xxx". Former professional boxer, Nicola Adams, added: "Sending positive vibes".
Fans added their shock and good wishes too. "Oh my word. Sending so much love you have been through far to much x x x", wrote one person. Another said: "I love your outlook and positivity in life. Such an inspiration. Hope you make a speedy recovery", with a third adding: "Your resilience and grace in these situations are always outstanding to me. You're someone who will always teach me to be a better person and your emotional intelligence is such an art. Love you loads x" The post has received over 38k likes and over 2k comments.
