Loose Women star Denise Welch has praised war veteran Simon Weston’s “love story” marriage. Simon appeared as a guest on the ITV lunchtime show on Thursday, May 25.
Simon was on the panel to discuss his charity work and his wife, Lucy, whom he's been married to for more than three decades, was among the audience. The pair met and fell in love after Simon was severely injured during the Falklands War when the Sir Galahad was bombed and set on fire.
After chatting about Simon’s recent charity work, Denise turned to Lucy and said: “We’ve known each other for 30 years and this is one of the greatest love stories. I remember, years ago, Simon telling me that he’d been terrified of Lucy seeing the albums before he got injured because he thought that [she'd] wish [she] married that guy but it was the opposite wasn’t it, Lucy?”

“Completely the opposite,” Lucy replied. “I don’t recognise the before. I fell in love with Simon as he is now. I’ve no connection to any photographs of Simon before he was injured at all.”
Addressing the audience, Denise joked: “She did use a word and she said, ‘I wouldn’t have like that… That begins with a W,” and the audience burst into laughter. Lucy then said: “I stick by that as well!”
Simon and Lucy married in 1990 and have three children together - James, Stuart and Caitlin. The couple met in Liverpool when she was working for his charity, Weston Spirit. The pair got engaged on June 8, 1989 - exactly seven years after Simon was left scarred for life in the attack.
