ITV Loose Women's Coleen Nolan's anger at new smoking law idea

Coleen Nolan demanded the government stop "telling her what to do" as she discussed a new law which would seek to prevent people from smoking.

Backed by the health secretary Sajid Javid, the UK could be on track for a new higher age limit for buying cigarettes. The current legal limit is 18 but a report expected to arrive in the coming weeks discusses a 'radical' change that includes moving the minimum age to 21.

The topic was discussed on ITV's Loose Women, where Coleen Nolan shared her disapproval of the new 'ban'. Coleen stated it won't make any real change and children are still able to purchase cigarettes regardless of legal age.

During the discussion, Coleen vented in a frustrated tone that she wishes the government would stop telling her what to do and people should be allowed to make decisions on their own. She said: "It won't help.

"I don't get it. Also, stop telling us what to do. We're telling kids at 18 that they're then adults therefore if they're adults make their own choices in life is what we should all be allowed to do."

She added: "I'm sick of being told what to do." The review suggests the new rules are a ban on smoking which Ruth Langsford clarifies is not true. She said: "It's not a ban, it's a raising of age."

The panel were united in their thoughts on the prosed new law and agreed it would do little to affect younger people smoking. The review is a part of the health secretary's plan to slash the number of smokers in Britain by 5% by 2030.
