ITV Loose Women: Janet Street-Porter divides opinion with Boris Johnson comments

Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter has said she was 'enraged' by the Prime Minister's comments after the results of the confidence vote were released.

The broadcaster and journalist appeared on the panel for Tuesday morning's show (June 7) to discuss the vote of confidence surrounding Boris Johnson's leadership after the unravelling of Partygate in recent weeks.

One of the show's presenters Ruth Langsford said the Prime Minister has seen a "victory of sorts" on Monday night (June 6) where 59 per cent of MPs said they have confidence in his leadership. He has remained defiant after Conservative MPs voted 211 votes to 148, winning by a majority of 63 votes.

After the narrow survival among Tory MPs, the Prime Minister said: "I think this is a very good result for politics and for the country. I do, in this sense, I think it's a convincing result, a decisive result and what it means is as a government we can move on and focus on the stuff that I think really matters to people."

He went on to say: "We're going to bash on, we have a huge agenda and we're going to get it done."

When asked on her thoughts, Janet Street-Porter said: "'Bash on' is a phrase that has enraged me. That just shows you that no matter how serious the situation is Boris will always choose the handy catchphrase, the headline-grabbing couple of words over understanding the crisis that we're in and how it affects ordinary people.

"You can't just 'bash on' and solve the problem that you know, with a huge amount of the population now facing rising fuel bills, they can't go anywhere in their cars or they have ti cut the number of trips they can make. Food bills are going up, fuel bills - we all know - heating, oil and so on has gone up a tremendous amount, plus NHS waiting lists are really, really high.

She went on to say 'bashing' isn't the correct word to use in this situation. "Bashing is something you do in a car wrecker's yard," she added. JSP also mentioned how she didn't think the ongoing crisis in Ukraine was an excuse to halt a change in leadership.

Many viewers took to Twitter to agree with her comments. Twitter user @Richard01895722 commented: "Linda is spitting feathers at #JanetStreetPorter’s slating of #BorisTheLiar #LooseWomen."

"Couldn’t agree more with @The_Real_JSP on @loosewomen - using Ukraine to say why we still need Boris get s grotesque #LooseWomen," said @PGUK78.

But not everyone agreed with the journalist's musings over the Prime Minister. @Johnboy710Fble said: "#JSP the political expert #LooseWomen So #BoJo staying upsets you, good I’m glad it does. Sorry it didn’t fit in with you and your MSM buddies but he’s here to stay."

@MikeyF88970088 added: "#LooseWomen fgs JSP give it a rest. Many of us are fed up with people like u thinking u speak for the nation. You don't. You speak for some but there are a great many if us that support Boris and are willing him to succeed. Shame u dont support the UK like he does."
