However, fans were shocked after reports surfaced that former health secretary Matt Hancock would also be joining the jungle as a late addition. The news did not go down will with his Conservative peers as he has been suspended as a Tory MP.

Viewers on Twitter looking forward to the show are also taken aback and claimed they will not be watching the series if Mr Hancock appears.

Graham said: "Matt Hancock going into the Jungle. After what he did through covid, people should let it be known to ITV that they will not tune in to watch this man and he should be replaced with immediate effect. If he appears in the jungle I will switch off to ITV forever".

Debbie added: "Matt Hancock is NOT a celebrity! Why is he going in the Jungle? I won’t watch it if he’s in it! I suggest everyone does the same!

Moi commented: "Apparently Matt Hancock is going to deliver ‘important messages to the masses’? What the…. No thanks to that @ITV Won’t watch now."

Roweena tweeted: "I watch it every year... I won't watch it this year... I'm not giving that man my eye balls for one moment! @ITV will regret this decision."
