ITV Grace: John Simm's famous wife and their quiet life off screen

ITV crime drama Grace returns to our screens on Sunday evening, with many fans looking forward to watching Brighton's best fictional detective get to the bottom of more suspicious deaths.

John Simm plays Detective Superintendent Roy Grace in the gritty series, based on the bestselling novels by Peter James. Fans of the show may know all about DSI Grace - but how much do they know about John Simm's life away from the camera?

Just like his character, the 51-year-old actually lives in Brighton. He also has a famous wife.

In a bid to get to know John better, Sussex Live took a look at his life off-screen. Here's everything you need to know about the star.

John moved from London to Brighton with his wife Kate Magowan and children, Ryan (20) and Molly (15) over lockdown. The Doctor Who legend said the relocation was a long-term goal and had nothing to do with Grace, but admitted it was "serendipitous" in an interview with The Times.

He added he loves the sea air and freedom and that "so many friends have done the same thing" when speaking to the publication last year. And Kate shared the exciting move with her 10,100 Instagram followers, writing at the time: "Goodbye London, it’s been memorable. Hello BRIGHTON!"

Kate is best known for her time on EastEnders when she played beauty salon owner Sadie Young from 2013 to 2014. The 46-year-old previously starred in hit shows including The Bill and Silent Witness.

Her screen career kicked off in season two of Dream Team, Sky 1's first original drama series. She went on to appear in many films and television roles including the role of Princess Una in the magical film Stardust in 2007, Kidulthood, 4.3.2.1., Screwed, A Lonely Place to Die and It's All Gone Pete Tong.

Kate married John in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, in April 2004. The pair have also appeared together in four films: 24 Hour Party People, Is Harry On The Boat?, the award-winning short film Devilwood and the heist thriller Tuesday, as well as in the BBC Series Exile.

And it seems the couple are still very much in love, with Kate posting a cosy Valentine's Day selfie with her and John. "22 Years My Valentine," the star wrote with a heart emoji.

Grace series 2 begins at 8pm on Sunday (April 24) on ITV and the ITV Hub
