Good Morning Britain viewers were left making the same complaint as Susanna Reid joked they had locked some of their guests in a room in order to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's docuseries as it dropped on Netflix. Two years of the couple's lives have been filmed for the six-part series, entitled Harry & Meghan, after they stepped back as senior royals.
Billed as a 'Netflix Global Event', the docuseries vows to tell the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's own version of their story from the beginnings of their relationship to the "challenges and controversies that prompted them to step back from the royal family".
The first three episodes see the couple tell the real story of how they first met in 2016 as they were asked about the 'rehearsed' announcement of their engagement in 2017. There is also many references to Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, from the 38-year-old as he breaks his silence on her Panorama interview.
Viewers also got to see Harry and Meghan simply being parents to their children, first-born son Archie, now three, and later Lilibet, now one, who wasn't born when they began filming the docuseries, with previously unseen pictures and footage.
Meghan's mum Doria Ragland is also seen speaking for the first time, discussing the moment Meghan told her about Prince Harry and spoke about the press coverage of Meghan’s background in which she said paparazzi would take pictures of deprived neighbourhoods in Los Angeles.
During Thursday’s installment (December 8) of GMB, hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard were speaking about the first half of the docuseries being released for the first part of their show before the episodes dropped at 8am.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spoken about throughout the show with Susanna and Ben checking in with their correspondent Noel Phillips in the United States about the series while ITV's royal editor Chris Ship was among those joining them in the studio.
Later, as they got their first look at the opening episdoe of the searies, Susanna reacted by pointing out the clear statement that preceded the documentary. She said: "The opening frames of the Harry and Meghan documentary are some quotes and information saying it is a first hand account, including never before seen personal archives and all interviews were completed by August 2022."
The host claimed the statement was "significant" as she added: "Today marks three months since the Queen died. The Queen died on September 8 so it feels like the couple have made clear that all the interviews they did for the documentary series where finished before the death of the Queen."
There was, however, a brief break in Meghan and Harry coverage which included a chat with boxing champ Tyson Fury while Susanna and Ben let their panel work their way through as much of the first half of the docuseries as possible.
They then ended the show by discussing what they knew so far but GMB viewers weren't too impressed. @davefowles68 tweeted: "Sorry @GMB as soon as you start going on about Harry & Meghan I have to turn over! Not interested one bit! #gmb."
@FlopsyPickle fumed: "Oh my god just shut the f**k up! I’m sick of hearing about Meghan and Harry when we have far more important things to be talking about!" @lotslottie16 shared: "I’m so over Harry and Meghan. There are bigger issues in the world than these two right now. #gmb." @Christopher_T42 added: "If we wanted to know what was being said on the Harry and Meghan Netflix thing, we'd be watching it and not you @GMB #gmb."
