ITV Good Morning Britain viewers distracted by Paul Burrell appearance as he wades into Matt Hancock I'm A Celebrity debate

Good Morning Britain viewers found themselves being distracted as Paul Burell made a fresh appearance on the show. The former butler to the late Princess Diana appeared on the ITV news programme on Monday (November 14) via video link to chat to Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley.

The trio were also joined by Dame Esther Rantzen, who was live from the New Forest, to chat about Matt Hancock's latest exploits in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here. The former health secretary has been in the jungle for barely a week and all the attention has been on him as he continues to face questions from his campmates and bushtucker trials.

GMB was posing the question of whether reality TV can rescue stars from a lifetime of cancellation. It comes after Matt, 44, tearfully revealed that he was looking for 'forgiveness' from his I'm A Celeb appearance.

Paul, who appeared on the show himself in 2004, argued that Matt will have to "face the music" when he leaves Australia and comes back to the UK where he has been suspended as a Tory MP due to his appearance on the hit programme. "And, have to face his constituents," he added from his home in Cheshire. "Because he hasn't been there working for them and his new life will begin. He has to wave goodbye to politics."

But as Matt's I'm A Celeb's appearance causes outrage among some, Esther argued: "I think the thing about Matt is he is fantastic entertainment value, he is the most powerful person they've ever had in the jungle and everybody wants to see well did he really have the guts to see us through Covid, see himself through the terrible humiliation of that very public kiss, how is he facing bits of stray animal, having to eat it.

"I think he is such good entertainment value that the public will keep him in. I don't think people will vote him out, they'll want him there, they'll want to see what's next."

Paul was on the show alongside Dame Esther Rantzen (ITV)

However, GMB viewers couldn't focus on what Paul in particular was saying as they were too busy looking at his home which was already ready for Christmas. @james_scott39 tweeted: "Christmas tree? Really. Why? Just really weird." @Sarah07909750 said: "Is that a Christmas tree already up behind Paul Burrell???"

@werdna67 wrote: "Paul Burrell has got his Christmas tree up! Of course he has." @ScottMoffett01 posted: "Get your Christmas tree down Paul mate. #GMB." @AllPieEye wrote: "Forget Matt Hancock... Why has Burrell got his Christmas tree up.... IT'S NOVEMBER!!..#gmb." But @Rise_and_grind7 added in response: "Have you not been out lately..you’re in for a shock when you see the shops."

Susanna also referenced Paul's festive decorations, commenting: "I think that's the earliest Christmas tree we've seen so far on a guest zoom. It's come early in your house," to which Paul said: "I love Christmas!"
