ITV Good Morning Britain viewers cast verdict on Gordon Smart's debut as he reveals advice before first appearance

Good Morning Britain viewers have been having their say as the latest show was brought to them by a new face. It was announced earlier this week that Gordan Smart would be making his presenting debut on the ITV news programme on Thursday (December 29) before returning again the following day for the last GMB of the year.

He spent his first morning at the helm alongside Charlotte Hawkins and becomes the latest male host the join the every-changing line-up - which includes Martin Lewis, Richard Madeley, Adil Ray, Ed Balls and Robert Rinder - since Piers Morgan's exit last year.

When his addition to the show was announced, Radio X broadcaster Gordon said he was "thrilled to be joining" the team, and was "relishing" in the new role.

And Charlotte was sure to give him a warm welcome as he opened the show at 6am this morning. "We have a new face on the show today.." she announced before asking him how it felt to be on the programme.

"First day at school vibes," he replied with a laugh. "I feel like you're the clever girl at school and I'm copying your homework. I think I even wrote your name down by mistake!" He then added: "Thanks for having me," as Charlotte repeated her welcome.

Gordon then briefly chatted about his career, admitting to spending much of the last few years sitting at home in his pants watching the show. "Thanks for putting your trousers on today," Charlotte quipped before Gordon said he had set himself up for a "great fall" by appearing as a host on the show.

And it turns out his dad had one bit of advice before his TV appearance. "Great Scottish advice and the kind of positivity you'd expect on the family Whatsapp... He just replied and said: 'Get a spray tan, son!' which was great Scottish advice wasn't it?"

Gordon then laughed and said that his dad was a GP so he was hoping for some insight on the NHS that he could bring to the show. It was then time to crack on with the show and it appears GMB viewers were a fan of the new on-screen partnership.

@sandra_goatcher tweeted: "Much better co-presenter @CharlotteHawkins definitely watching again tomorrow!!" @Adam__Potrykus said: "Dear Lordy! @GMB just got a little bit sizzling! Welcome, @gordonsmart! Where you've been all my life?"

@taffywilliams posted: "@gordonsmart and @CharlotteHawkns are excellent presenters this morning, very refreshing. Well done Gordon, hope to see you presenting again soon. Thank you for your wonderful program. Keep up the excellent work"

@wilsonsg shared: "What a great addition to the team such a mellifluous voice, you seem to have taken to it like a duck to water @gordonsmart hope you are here to stay." @SueNealis demanded: "Sign him up permanently." @SnowAndBeach added: "I hope this is a long term thing Gordon! #GMB."
