ITV Good Morning Britain viewers baffled over Susanna Reid's remarks after Boris Johnson's final speech

Good Morning Britain viewers were left confused on Tuesday morning after hearing Susanna Reid share her thoughts on Boris Johnson's exit speech. The Prime Minister bid farewell earlier today (September 6) after it was announced yesterday that Liz Truss would replace Boris as the next PM.

On the final day of his duties, the outgoing Prime Minister emerged from No.10 Downing Street with his wife Carrie to address the nation for the last time. In his speech he highlighted his government's record on Brexit, supporting Ukraine and the Covid-19 vaccine rollout.

Approaching the podium, Boris began: "This is it folks. Thank you everybody for coming out so early this morning. In only a couple of hours I will be in Balmoral to see Her Majesty the Queen and the torch will finally be passed to a new Conservative leader."

Celebrating his government, the PM said: "A new prime minister will shortly go to meet a fantastic group of public servants. The people who got Brexit done. The people who delivered the fastest vaccine rollout in Europe, and never forget 70% of the entire population got a dose within six months – faster than any comparable country. That is government for you. That’s this Conservative government."

In his parting words Boris Johnson also described himself like "one of those booster rockets that has fulfilled its function" .

Reacting to the speech on Good Morning Britain, host Susanna Reid, who has returned to the ITV programme this week after her summer break, was full of praise for Boris Johnson and his duties.

She said: "This is a Prime Minister who delivered an 80 seat majority at a time of political crisis over Brexit who then entered into the most remarkable international health crisis.

"I remember the night when he was in intensive care and we were preparing for the possibility that the Prime Minister may not survive. He did, he bounced back and delivered an extraordinary vaccine rollout."

Daily Mail journalist Andrew Pearce then said: “It’s going to be a dull place without him,” which Susanna “totally agreed with”.

The 51-year-old TV presenter then went on to read out a series of messages from viewers who all supported the outgoing Prime Minister.

One message read: "Good luck Boris. Sorry to see you go. You gave a great speech. Best Prime Minister we have had. You’ll be back," whilst another said: “We’ll miss you Boris. Come back soon. You’re one of a kind.”

Viewers soon took to Twitter to share their confusion over the presenter's support for the Prime Minister.

"Don't know why Susanna Reid suddenly become a Johnson fan today...her words and her choice of messages to read out from the public was..telling. no more bias on #GMB," @AEO59152543 said.

@natasha_lass wrote: "So Susanna Reid is going to miss Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister who continuously refused to appear on #GMB for over a year... Okay..."

@chrissypeekaboo added: Oh here we go Susanna Reid reading out the we love you Boris messages whilst informing us its the viewers that count! She is definitely doing a Nadine! #GMB #ByeByeBoris."

@ResaChuks tweeted: "Why is Susanna Reid bigging up Boris Johnson this morning? he fumbled the bag, he won the election on a majority & if he had only behaved himself, he would NOT have had to step down! All of this is self inflicted, so i’m indifferent bye bye Boris #GMB #BorisJohnson."
