ITV Good Morning Britain under fire for Harry and Meghan South Park debate as viewers think show has 'forgotten'

Good Morning Britain has come under fire after discussing South Park's fresh dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become the latest inspiration for an episode of the US cartoon, which features a copy of a book entitled Waaagh, following the release of Harry's book, Spare.

The new episode, entitled The Worldwide Privacy Tour, aired on Comedy Central in the US on Wednesday and depicts the "Prince of Canada" attempting to escape the limelight with his princess. Main character Kyle is dismayed when he finds out that the characters, dubbed the "dumb prince and his stupid wife", have moved into a new home opposite his house.

A trailer uploaded by South Park Studios shows a clip of Kyle complaining about the prince and princess’s move to the neighbourhood to Stan and Kenny whilst sat in the school canteen during lunch. A clip of the episode features a scene that takes place on a chat show called Good Morning Canada.

It sees the couple enter the stage holding placards that read: "We want our privacy!" and: "Stop looking at us!" whilst the talk show host introduces a copy of the prince’s book, titled Waaagh.

During Friday's edition of GMB, Ed Balls and Ranvir Singh were discussing the first-look at the episode with their own panel made up of Jacqui Smith, Iain Dale and Jack Royston. Kicking off the chat, Ranvir admitted: "I mean, it is quite hard to watch isn't it? It's tough."

"Listen, I'm Team Meghan, but I still think that was funny. The poster saying 'Stop looking at us,'" Jacqui said before Ranvir turned to royal correspondent Jack and said: "Right okay so this is a big deal that they've had the mickey taken out of them on a massive show like that. It's like when you're in The Simpsons, it's an accolade but when you're in South Park, I'm not sure so much."

Ed chipped in and said "all of the big stars have been mocked in this way" before Jack commented: "There's a big thing happening in America right now, they've transitioned from being Obama 2.0, these really serious celebrities to being these figures of ridicule, it's not just South Park, it's been Saturday Night Live and Jimmy Fallon and other big, big, big mainstream comedy shows. So it's a big transition.

"We actually had some polling before Harry's book came out and then again afterwards and they have crashed in the US opinion polls. So public opinion in America has swung significantly in the US. Harry has dropped 45 points."

But GMB viewers were unimpressed by the conversation and despite Ed pointing out that other big names have been mocked, they pointed out that Harry and Meghan aren't the first members of the royal family to feature in South Park. @Michey12410371 tweeted: "#GMB @GMB Forgetting there are receipts of South Park done the same to Kate and William Queen."

Alongside a screengrab of the late Queen being imitated in the cartoon, @TypeOfTime said: "Btw this is South Park. I don’t recall #gmb making a big deal of it like this when other members of the royal family are being mocked lol." @TRIGGZYBOY asked: "Have they mentioned South Park and William and Kate? #GMB." While @LukeHayesII1 added: "Who cares, it's a cartoon!? #GMB #SouthPark #HarryandMeghan."

Later, after discussing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Ranvir mocked Ed for joining in on the debate despite "not caring" about the royal couple. "We've spent a good few minutes talking about something you don't care about," Ranvir quipped to which her co-star hit back: "I really don't care, I really don't care."

Mocking him further, Ranvir said: "You really don't care. You're so upset. That's literally how it is." The former Labour MP then jokingly replied: "Let me tell you how much I don't care," as former Strictly Come Dancing star Ranvir hit back: "That typified the British response right there."
