ITV Good Morning Britain under fire as it 'offends' viewers with 'shameful' Eurovision blunder

Good Morning Britain has come under fire from viewers after suffering what they described as a 'shameful' Eurovision blunder. The annual song contest is just days away and the first semi-final takes place on Tuesday night (May 10).

There will be a second semi-final on Thursday night which will decide the full line-up for the competition which takes place in Turin, Italy on Saturday (May 14). And the UK's entry Sam Ryder is hoping to do better than our last attempt which received the dreaded 'nil poi'.

With the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest getting closer it is no surprise it was being discussed on GMB on Tuesday morning. Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley were joined on the ITV news programme by their showbiz editor Richard Arnold in the studio. They spoke about how the Ukrainian entry is the favourite to win this year's contest.

Kalush Orchestra will represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest this week as the Russian invasion of their home nation continues. They are favourites to win the competition with their song Stefania, despite having to take part in tonight's semi-final first.

As the GMB presenter spoke about the entry, the show cut to a clip of the song, but viewers quickly noticed they broadcasted a clip of last year's entry, Shum by Go_A and took to social media to complain.

@_LucasMichael_ tweeted: "@GMB get your researchers to do their jobs properly. Shum was last year's Ukrainian entry." @Matt_Francis shared: "Other countries take #eurovision seriously, yet @gmb can’t even show the right Ukrainian entry #gmb."

Lucrezia fumed: "Can your researchers not get their facts right, GMB? Yes, that song was Ukraine, but they've never had an artist called Stefania. That's the name of THIS year's entry, and your clip was of last year's entry Shum by Go_A. Shameful. Get it right!"

@kennyburton66 wrote: "@GMB You’ve just played last years Ukraine entry by GoA claiming it will win Eurovision tonight. Nill points to GMB."

"Genuinely offended that @GMB just messed up saying who’s representing Ukraine this year at Eurovision. You played last year’s entry (Shum by Go_A) whilst announcing the act is a girl called Stefania. The song is called Stefania, the act is Kalush Orchestra," @joeyknock added.

Richard has since addressed the complaints on Twitter and said that it was a 'library footage error', and assured viewers that it would be corrected as he added: "Can happen on live TV." He added in another tweet that the mistake would be addressed live on air on Wednesday's show (May 11) in a message to one viewer.

But GMB viewers were also far from impressed with Richard after he shot down Richard's suggestion that Sam could actually win this year. The 65-year-old presenter said: "What do you mean?! I'm not saying it's not a great song, it's just that Europe hates us." Co-star Charlotte Hawkins then chipped in: "We can't do worse though can we, on the plus side."

But there were more complaints over on social media. @hayley_qt tweeted: "Hahaha @GMB showing a clip of last year's Ukraine entry and Richard being all negative about the UK. Can't say I'm surprised. Do your research."

@DOPreston fumed: "Richard Madeley trotting out the usual ‘EUROPE HATES US’ whilst ignoring the fact that we haven’t even liked most of our own songs in the last decade. #Eurovision #GMB."
