ITV Good Morning Britain studio plunges into darkness as Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh panic

Good Morning Britain hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh audibly gasped when they were plunged into darkness during Monday's show.

The presenters were rounding off the segment when the lights in the studio went off. Both Ranvir and Richard were heard going "Oh" as the set became darker.

However, it shouldn't have come as such a surprise for Ranvir and Richard as they had just been discussing the upcoming reality show Scared Of The Dark.

Scared of The Dark sees eight celebrities live together in a completely pitch-black bunker for eight days. The contestants will enter a purpose-built living space designed to block out any light and rigged with 50 infrared cameras.

Speaking about celebrity contestant Paul Gascoigne, Richard said: “He’s taken on a very big personal challenge for a new television show, it’s his childhood fear of the dark.

“He and other contestants had to sit in pitch blackness for days on end – and nights. Not a chink of light. That would drive me mad.”

Ranvir said: "I'd quite like it. There’s a restaurant you can go to and dine in the dark."

However, as Ranvir was crossing over to regional news, the lights suddenly dimmed causing both hosts to initially gasp, before realising what had happened.
