ITV Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley apologises as he stuns Susanna Reid by 'swearing'

Richard Madeley was quick to apologise after he was called out by a surprised Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain. The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Monday morning (June 6) following the four-day Bank Holiday weekend.

Much of the show's conversation was around the celebrations held over the last few days to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. But after days of jubilation, viewers were quickly brought back down to earth after the news broke on-air that Boris Johnson will face a vote of no confidence.

Before the latest political twist, Richard was told off by Susanna "for swearing" as they spoke to their co-star Ranvir Singh who was on hand to deliver the latest news headlines to viewers.

The pair were discussing Wales making it through to the World Cup on Sunday (June 5) t for the first time in 64 years. The team beat Ukraine 1-0 in the play-off final in Cardiff. Wales now finds themselves in the same group as England, with Iran and the United States for company.

Richard said he couldn't believe he was just a baby the last time the nation competed in the international competition and said: "I was two years old. Bloody hell." Susanna's eyes quickly widened and she whipped her hand out to her right in his direction, remarking: "What did you just say?"

Richard replied: "What? Oh, sorry. Flipping heck," changing his use of phrase after realising his error. "I was two. Apologies. I'm sorry - it's early in the morning," the 66-year-old added.

But GMB viewers were slightly confused by the need to apologise with one asking: "Can you not say 'bloody hell' on telly at 7am?"

They then moved on to discuss the brand new series of Love Island which kicks off on ITV2 tonight (Monday). Susanna, 51, was teasing an interview with the dating show's host Laura Whitmore and before the programme went to ad ad break, he scathingly said of Love Island: “It's over. Surely, we've had enough."

It comes after Richard couldn't hide his dismay as he and Charlotte Hawkins were able to announce the first contestant heading to the brand new villa last week.
