Martin Lewis issued a passionate plea as he urged the government to act to avoid an "act of national mental health harm".
The consumer champion appeared on today's edition of Good Morning Britain as Ofgem prepared to announce the new energy price cap. The price cap is expected to be reduced by £1,000 to £3,300 for someone on typical use.
However, energy bills are still set to rise as the government is expected to lift the energy price guarantee. The government has previously subsided energy bills so people across the UK pay a maximum of £2,500.

However, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has proposed to increase the energy price guarantee, which will mean energy bills will rise by 20% in April.
Martin blasted the proposed plans as he urged the government to reverse proposals. He said: "Please do not do the price increase in April. It will only likely be in effect for three months.
"It seems to be an act of national mental health harm to send millions a letter saying your energy bills are going to up by 20% again when they've already more than doubled."
Martin explained forecasts show the energy price cap is expected to drop again in July to £2,100. He said the government is going to spend less money subsidising energy bills than they had predicted so urged them to spend more now to help people cope with skyrocketing bills.
The finance guru said: "If you postpose that rise to July, well then we'd be back on the price cap and we get people to escape that price hike."
Martin's campaign has received the support from over 80 charities and he remains optimistic the government might reverse the decision to scrap the price hike.
He said: "Reading the rooms, I now think there is a good chance the government might not do the 20% increase on April 1. "
