ITV Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway cheered for response to Gavin Williamson knighthood

Kate Garraway was cheered by Good Morning Britain viewers as she shared a scathing response to Gavin Williamson receiving a knighthood.

The presenter, 54, was back as the main host of the ITV news programme alongside Ben Shephard as they brought the latest news on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The pair were joined on the programme by deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab when he was asked about the news that former Education Secretary will be knighted.

Downing Street said on Thursday that the Queen has approved the honour for the Tory MP who came under fire for cancelling A-levels and GCSEs two years in a row.

The Prime Minister sacked Mr Williamson from that role in September following the exams fiasco and he was previously dumped as defence secretary following an inquiry into a leak from the National Security Council.

After speaking about the Russian invasion and how it is not set to be over 'in days or weeks', Ben took the opportunity to quiz Mr Raab on Mr Williamson's honour.

Asked if Mr Williamson deserved the honour, Mr Raab replied: "Yes, I think in recognition of the service he has given, both in parliament and in government. It’s not out of keeping with honours that have been provided over the years."

Kate chipped in and asked: "Why haven’t you got one then?” to which the 48-year-old MP replied: "Well, I am still in the cabinet. Those decisions are taken by others. That normally happens when someone steps down from cabinet or government."

Kate interjected: "Or fired in fact," as Mr Raab responded: "You use your words and I’ll choose mine."
