ITV Good Morning Britain's Ed Balls 'forgets golden TV rule' as he's rejected live on air

Good Morning Britain saw the return of Ed Balls on Tuesday's show (April 26) as he hosted the show alongside Susanna Reid. The former Labour MP first made his presenting debut on the show last year.

He has since returned on numerous occasions, sharing the co-hosting role alongside Susanna with the likes of Richard Madeley, Martin Lewis, Adil Ray, and Richard Bacon.

On the latest edition of the ITV news programme, the hosts were joined in the London-based ITV studio by a mother and her son who had fled their home in the city of Odessa in Ukraine and found refuge in the UK, where they are now being hosted in Windsor.

Mum Nastya told Susanna and Ed how her heart breaks every time she hears the latest news coming from her country which came under attack from Russia in February. She said: "Thank God we are okay, but lots of Ukrainians are not. We hope that awful war, this terrible mistake, will soon finish and that all the Ukrainians can feel safe and return to their houses."

When Susanna, 51, commented that Nastya's son 'shouldn’t have to go through this', the Ukrainian mum said: "Yes, but he understands everything very clearly."

As the interview came to an end, Ed attempted to give the young Ukrainian refugee aired his high five and fist bump but soon found himself being rejected as the boy looked around his interesting surroundings and Susanna commented that he'd like to go get breakfast.

But the moment didn't go unnoticed by GMB viewers with one claiming Ed forgot a 'golden rule'. @IAmSimonPreston tweeted: "Ed Balls forgetting the golden rule of TV: never go in for a high five. Too high a chance of being denied. #GMB."

"Omg. Ed Balls just got double aired by a Ukrainian refugee kid on GMB. It was a high-five, fist-bump combo and it was brutal," @Josh79227449 commented.

@Fluffadelic said: "That kid ignoring Balls’ hi- 5 fist bump has made my day #GMB."

GMB fans were divided over Ed being back on the show. He appeared to replace Richard Madeley who returned to the programme on Monday after a brief absence.

@chantry5 commented: "Man alive, Ed Balls is terrible on #GMB @GMB he just doesn't get any better."

"Ed Balls presenting... #GMB," @MikeJohnson2174 tweeted alongside a yawning face emoji.

Whereas @LyndseyCHP commented: "@GMB @susannareid100 @edballs have to say this morning's show has been excellent, news, laughter, sadness...what a morning show should be, great team with top presenters today...keep up the good work."

And @pennock_pauline said: "We love Ed Balls more of him please."
