ITV Good Morning Britain's Adil Ray in hot water for 'stupid' question to Ukrainians who have lost friends

Adil Ray has been slammed by some Good Morning Britain viewers over his question to two Ukrainians who have lost friends in the conflict.

The presenter was back on the ITV news programme on Monday (February 28) alongside Susanna Reid as they gave viewers all the latest updates following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Susanna admitted to feeling 'physically sick' as Adil said he was 'scared' as they discussed the news that President Vladimir Putin had put Russia's nuclear forces on high alert amid the invasion.

Susanna also fought back tears as she discussed the human price of the conflict and became choked as she spoke of the death of a schoolgirl who is the first to be named as a victim of the Russian invasion.

During Monday's programme, Susanna and Adil also spoke to two Ukrainian doctors who had suffered the loss of their friends overnight.

Doctor Kateryna and Oleksandr appeared via video link from Obukhiv, a city in Kyiv Oblast of Ukraine.

Susanna started the interview by asking how the tearful pair were this morning.

Kateryna replied: "This morning was difficult for us because last night was very tough. There were a lot of sirens last night.

"It's also difficult as this night we stayed at home because the bomb shelter was full. There was no space for us. It was difficult for us."

Adil and Susanna were hosting the latest GMB (ITV)

The guest were explaining their inability to get into a bomb shelter when Adil stepped in.

He said: "Oleksandr we've also heard you've had some very sad news overnight that friends of yours - I believe in the north - have sadly lost their lives due to rocket fire.

"That must be really really hard for you to accept and take in at this point."

The question didn't get a response with Oleksandr breaking into tears.

"You don't have to say anything," Adil then cut in. "We don't want you to get upset and can see how hard this might be. Our thoughts are with you.

Oleksandr became emotional on the programme (ITV)

"It must be - for you going through and just trying to stay alive, and survive, and not only that, you're helping others - and then to hear about your friends the other side of the country, it must be very difficult."

But GMB viewers took to social media to hit out at the choice of questioning.

@AndreaC18026289 fumed: "What a stupid question to ask! Have a bloody heart."

"@GMB what a stupid question Your friends have been killed how do you feel," @jehovah246 echoed.

@StevenM89052991 said: "Amazing people, total admiration for what they are doing. Insensitive question from Adil, you can see they are just holding it together and you ask them about their friends."

"FFS Adil .. you are as subtle as a brick .. #gmb," @Carla_littlerob complained.
