ITV Good Morning Britain reporter ducks for cover as bombing siren sounds in Kyiv

A Good Morning Britain presenter was interrupted during his report this morning by a bombing siren, with chief correspondent Richard Gaisford ducking for cover in the capital of Ukraine today.

The reporter had been speaking live from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv this morning, but had to pause the feed between himself, Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway when a siren was sounded in the area, MyLondon also reports.

During Richard's report, he explained that explosions could be seen erupting across the once-peaceful city of Kyiv.

As the sirens sounded, main presenter Ben Shepherd said: "We will let you get safe."

As viewers raised their concerns, Richard calmly explained that he and his film crew were in an area "deemed to be safe".

Richard added: "There are no buildings around us which is obviously a good thing.

"There are buildings below and there are buildings above, but this is pretty much a benign area."

This did not quell viewers fears, as one comment read: "When are @GMB going to move @richardgaisford out of Kyiv?! At least get the poor guy inside #gmb #goodmorningbritain."

Another tweeted: "When are you going to bring @richardgaisford home?!!!"

Richard was passed his helmet and flak jacket - a sleeveless jacket made of heavy fabric reinforced with metal or Kevlar, worn as protection against bullets and shrapnel - during the interview.

This news has come as the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its second day, amid fresh strikes from Russian forces on Kyiv, and Nato allies prepare to determine the West’s next steps against the Kremlin.

The Ukrainian foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, said in a tweet just before 4am on Friday that “horrific rocket strikes” hit Kyiv in an attack he compared to the city’s 1941 shelling by Nazi Germany.

He said: “Last time our capital experienced anything like this was in 1941 when it was attacked by Nazi Germany.

“Ukraine defeated that evil and will defeat this one. Stop Putin. Isolate Russia. Sever all ties. Kick Russia out of (everywhere).”
