ITV Good Morning Britain joke falls flat after plant plot smashes on floor

April Fool's Day has thrown up some interesting pranks, with some real life incidents also being questioned as people thought they were too crazy to be true. One incident on Good Morning Britain today, though, didn't fool many.

It was Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway back at the helm of the show on April 1, a day usually consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes. However Good Morning Britain viewers were left unimpressed during Friday's show when they claim the show pulled the 'worst ever' April Fool's Day prank, reports the Manchester Evening News.

While the hosts were in the London-based studio, weather presenter Laura Tobin was broadcasting from a greenhouse. While she was there, she was shown a 'unique plant' by greenhouse worker Matt who told her the new plant was very important and the first of its kind.

He said he hoped it could be released for sale for people to have in their gardens in a couple of years. "Oh my goodness, so people will be able to buy this plant in a few years' time?" Laura asked to which Matt replied: "They will in a couple of years' time once we have bred from this one. Take a closer look because the undersides of these petals are absolutely..."

He even promised that they would name it after Laura herself. However, when he handed Laura the plant mid-sentence she 'accidentally' dropped it and they both screamed in shock before her guest tutted and stormed off.

Laura said: "Matt, we can save this right? Oh my God, he's just gone. Is there really only one of these?" before trying to scrape the remnants of the plant from off the floor. As she did, the meteorologist asked the camera crew if Matt was "really cross" and wanted to find him to see if he was okay.

Ben and Kate tried to join in with the joke back in the studio, however, Good Morning Britain viewers were quick to realise what was going on and they weren't too thrilled.
