ITV GMB viewers emotional as young girl gets letter from Queen a day after she died

Good Morning Britain viewers were left rather emotional on Tuesday after they heard the story of an eight-year-old girl who received a letter from the Queen, a day after her death.

Olivia Akers, from Australia, penned a letter to Her Majesty back in June for the Platinum Jubilee, which congratulated her and added she loved the sketch with Paddington Bear.

Those watching at home were reduced to tears as she also shared also shared pictures of herself dressed as the Monarch while riding her pony, Lady.

The schoolgirl read out her letter live on the ITV daytime show - she wrote: "Do you really eat marmalade sandwiches? I have included some photos from an online horse fancy dress competition that was for your Platinum Jubilee. I hope you like my photos.

"My side saddle came from England. My pony's name is Lady and she is an Australian pony. How many horses do you have? I hope you had a lovely Jubilee. Love Olivia."

Olivia was devastated by the Queen’s death but stunned to receive her reply the day after her passing.

Her Majesty asked her Lady-In-Waiting to write on her behalf and thank Olivia for her "kind message".

The letter revealed the Queen was "touched" to know Olivia also enjoys horse riding.

Mum Natalie, who appeared on GMB with her daughter, said it was "very, very special" to receive a letter back from the Queen.

After picking the letter up she explained how she "rushed" to Olivia's school to share the telegram with Olivia and her school friends.

Natalie said: “We live in a small, rural town with a population of about 700 people and I went to the post office that very morning and asked if there were any parcels today. The lady said there were no parcels ‘but you do have a very very special letter.

“Lo and behold it was the letter from the Queen. The whole town was aware that it had arrived. I rushed it round to Liv’s school so all her schoolfriends could see it.

“It’s been a very touching time.”

Susanna Reid gushed: “How wonderful to know that the Queen saw your letter, saw your photograph, and that you now have a memento of the Queen on such a significant day.”

And viewers were moved by the story too as they took to Twitter to express their admiration of the little girl.

“Not me crying at a little girl reading her letter to the Queen,” one wrote.

“BRB, crying,” another simply said.
