ITV GMB's Richard Madeley criticised by viewers over 'embarrassing' Ukraine question

Good Morning Britain viewers have criticised presenter Richard Madeley for comments he made on Tuesday's show (March 8).

Viewers were not happy with Richard for asking the same "stupid question" as he presented the show.

Birmingham Live reports how he interviewed Iceland's First Lady and asked: "I am just going to ask you... based on the women, as you say, who are willing to pick up a gun.

"You have three children, am I right?" The Icelandic guest replied: "Four children." Richard told her: "Four children. And what ages are they?"

"They are 8, 10, 12 and 14."

Richard said: "Alright. So if you weren't the first lady of Iceland, but say you were the first lady of Ukraine, of Kyiv, and you were there presumably you would want them get to a place of safety? Would you want and be willing to pick up a gun?"

She replied: "That is a difficult hypothetical question for me to answer because I am not in that situation.

"But what I can say is that I am in awe of the women of Kyiv and how they are defending their country." Susanna said: "Yes."

On Twitter, one person fumed: "Richard Madeley is not fit to report on such huge issues. He’s an embarrassment and you can see Susanna is mortified. Absolutely obsessed to ask everyone if they’d pick up a gun and kill someone."

"He’s obsessed with asking women if they would use a gun if needed. He really has the subtlety of a brick in his questioning," said another.

And a third wrote: "Seriously. Is @richardm56 really up for this job. His questions are bordering on embarrassment!!! Even @susannareid100 is cringing !!"

GMB airs daily on ITV from 6am.
