Dr Hilary Jones issued an obesity warning on today's episode of Good Morning Britain.
Thursday's edition of the ITV news programme was hosted by Adil Ray and Kate Garraway. The broadcasters anchored a discussion on Britain's obesity crisis after a report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) forecast the UK is set to become the fattest nation in Europe within 10 years.
The WHO says the UK currently has the third highest proportion of obese adults in Europe behind Turkey and Malta. However, Dr Kremlin Wickramasinghe, HO lead for noncommunicable diseases in Europe, told The Mirror that Britain is at the forefront of lifestyle trends which sees more people spending time in front of screens and ordering food deliveries.

He said: "In the UK we see a larger proportion of the population being exposed to this kind of environment. You see the same things in other countries but in the UK you see a greater proportion having online food deliveries and [exposed to junk food] advertising.”
The report has been presented at the European Congress on Obesity and estimates 37% of UK adults are expected to be obese when rates peak in 2033/34. Dr Hilary said obesity is associated with at least 13 types of cancer and warned attitudes need to change.
He said: "It's been getting gradually worse for many years. The delivery apps where people can just order takeaways with high fats, high salt, high sugar food and have them delivered to your doorstep reduces activity even further."
He later added: "If we don't do anything about it, we'll see more heart disease and cancer."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and the ITV Hub
