ITV Emmerdale viewers taken aback by Cain Dingle's unexpected change

Emmerdale viewers were taken aback by Cain Dingle's unexpected change on tonight's show.

It was Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd's joint stag and hen do on Thursday's episode of the long-running soap. Cain was in attendance at the party and enjoyed the festivities.

The past few months have been turbulent for the character, played by Jeff Hordley, after he discovered his sister, Chas, was having an affair with Al Chapman. Cain lured Al to a barn in the woods where he was accidentally shot by Kyle.

Cain took the blame to protect his son and served some time in prison before the truth was eventually unveiled. Tonight was the first time the character has been in a relaxed mode since the dramatic culmination of the show's 50th birthday celebrations in October.

Cain has since endured a fractured relationship with Chas as they vowed their relationship would never recover after a tumultuous few months. However, Cain was drunk at the end of tonight's episode and seemingly repaired old wounds with Chas as he showed concern for his sister after she didn't attend the party.

Fans following the show on Twitter were surprised by Cain and Chas' u-turn.

Paul said: "Like Chas and Al and Cain's time in prison never happened."

Jamie added: "I really did never think Chas and Cain would get on"

Linzi posted: "Since when are Cain and Chas best buds again?"

Chris tweeted: "Didn't Chas leave things with Cain that she'd tolerate him but would never forgive him"

Other viewers hailed the scene and demanded they see more drunk Cain.

Shaky said: "Chas and Cain bonding."

Wini added: "Awwww Cain & Chas"

Michelle posted: "We need more drunk Cain"

Katie commented: "More drunk Cain scenes please"
