The lives of Emmerdale's much-loved residents may be at risk but fans of the ITV soap spent the anniversary episode worried about one character - and one character only. Emmerdale's 50th anniversary celebrations got off to a wind-fuelled start as the storm looming over the Yorkshire Dales started to cause havoc.
An hour-long special episode on Sunday night (October 16) kicked off a week's worth of drama to mark the soap's five decades on air as a windstorm is set to batter the village and forever change the lives of those who live there. The episode started with Kim and Will's wedding but there was almost a hitch when the bride confronted her man's ex, Harriet, after she declared her love for Will.
But while the wedding did go ahead, pregnant teen Amelia was up on the moors alone after planning on having a romantic picnic with boyfriend Noah. And, after the wind knocked her off her feet and she fell to the ground, the character went into labour. She managed to just get through to her dad to tell him she was having the baby but she lost the signal on her phone.
Overhearing Dan's phone call, Harriet sprung into action and jumped on a quad bike to find her at Whiley's Farm. Back at Home Farm, Lydia arrived and asked for help in the search for pregnant Amelia who has gone into labour alone outside the village.
In a bid to help, viewers saw Kim step up into a saddle with her horse ready to go. She then took off on Ice to ride to the rescue in the storm. But again, she came face-to-face with Harriet who had been squashed when she plunged down a ravine followed by the quad bike she was riding in search for Amelia.
But as they looked for the teen, Kim stumbled across Harriet and as she tried to help, her horse, Ice, bolted and left Kim without a way of getting help. Then in another twist, both women ended up lying lifeless after a fork of lightning struck the quad throwing them both. Kim hit her head on a stone, leaving viewers wondering if either of them will be able to escape the storm.
And despite both women now fighting for their lives, Emmerdale viewers appeared more concerned about Ice, the Andalusian horse. @lisalisey87 said: "More importantly, is the horse okay?" @deedurkin33 asked: "Will the beautiful horse be ok?" @Chelly_Cxx tweeted: "I spent most of the episode worried about the horse…!!! @emmerdale #emmerdale."
@DanasBobby posted: "Ok but is the horse ok #Emmerdale." @salhypes shared: "I’m more worried about Kim’s horse than I am about Amelia. #Emmerdale." @allieakalulu66 wrote: "Anyone else more worried about the horse? #Emmerdale." @KatMarBax added: "I was too concerned about the horse the entire episode to enjoy it #Emmerdale."
