Emmerdale fans will be able to get their fix of the Yorkshire-based soap very soon as its return date is finally revealed. The ITV soap made a brief return to screens on Sunday night (September 11) after canceling its episodes at the end of the week following the Queen's death.
Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully last Thursday afternoon (September 8) at Balmoral, her Scottish Highlands home. The Queen’s son and successor King Charles III as well as the Queen's other children and grandchildren Princes William and Harry had rushed to be by her bedside.
The Palace said in a brief statement: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow." It has been announced that her funeral will take place on next Monday, September 19, the day after the 10-day period of National Mourning comes to an end.
Since the Queen's death, and the hours before when it was revealed that doctors were concerned for her health, major broadcasters have been running rolling news coverage leading to many changes in the planned schedule. ITV's soaps have been among the programmes affected with Coronation Street set to air tonight (Monday) for the first time since last Wednesday.
As for Emmerdale, Thursday's episode aired on Sunday night, but there will be no episode airing tonight. Instead Friday's planned Emmerdale double bill, which was scheduled following the Yorkshire-based soap being take off air for the football, will now air on Tuesday night (September 13) at 8pm instead.
Sunday's edition of the soap saw viewers witness emotional scenes as Faith Dingle's health continued to deteriorate. Earlier this year the character, played by Sally Dexter, was given the devasting news her cancer was back and that it was terminal. She has since endeavored to make the most of the time she has left with no treatment, much to her daughter Chas' upset.
Faith has recently begun having seizures and has also been getting very confused about her everyday life, including who her family members are. The latest episode saw the much-loved Dingle refusing to be "babysat" by everyone and managed to ditch Chas by pretending her palliative care nurse was ill and couldn't make their arranged meeting.
While she told Chas that she would just be going for a nap instead, she actually continued her planned meeting where she shared how she felt none of the decisions being made were actually her choice. Her nurse, however, explained that as her cancer progresses she might not be able to make decisions herself, so advised her appointing someone she trusts to make them for her was important.
And Chas ended up walking in on the meeting, followed by Cain, and the family went on to discuss Faith's choices, including implementing a do-not-resuscitate order and appointing Cain to have lasting power of attorney. But Faith soon suffered a bad turn, spilling boiling water all over her arm.
In heartbreaking scenes, when Cain rushed over to help, she picked up a frying pan seemingly in order to protect herself, believing him to be her abusive ex-husband Shadrach, who died in 2010.
