ITV Emmerdale's 'devil woman' sparks fans to predict 'creepy' Marlon Dingle twist

Emmerdale viewers were concerned for Marlon Dingle's safety in tonight's episode.

Wednesday's edition of the long-running soap continued to explore the character's health woes. Marlon has been going through a difficult time in the show as he has recently suffered a stroke.

Marlon's health took another turn for the worse earlier this month when he was rushed to hospital with a nasty cough. The character, played by Mark Charnock, was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia and has been recovering in hospital since.

His fiancee, Rhona Goskirk, collected Marlon from the hospital in the latest programme alongside her mum, Mary. Marlon was concerned he may not be ready to return home, but was reassured by Mary as the family planned for how they will be able to aid his recovery.

Mary and Marlon were later seen to be bonding as they completed a crossword puzzle. However, a furious Marlon branded her a "devil woman" when she revealed one of the answers.

Although it seems Mary is helping her daughter look after Marlon, viewers following the show on Twitter have predicted a sinister twist and worry she may have a darker motive.

India said: "Can see a Misery-style storyline developing around Marlon. Creepy mother-In-Law."

@FLady 1980 added: "Something not quite right about Rhona's mum"

Glenn posted: "Pleased to see Marlon. Not pleased to hear Mary putting doubts in his mind."

Gav said: "Methinks Mary may try Electric Shock Treatment on Marlon a la Ghostbusters style"

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub
