ITV Emmerdale fans work out who really shot Al as they threaten to switch off over Cain Dingle's fate

Emmerdale fans are convinced they know who really shot Al Chapman as they watched Cain Dingle be arrested for murder. It isn't the first time the pair have come to blows but there had appeared to be a truce between the pair after Al managed to save Cain's life earlier this year in the ITV soap.

But on the day of his mother, Faith's, funeral, Cain discovered the real reason Chas Dingle's son, Aaron, couldn't get out of the village quick enough despite laying his sister to rest just hours earlier after she was killed in the recent windstorm. He found Chas' secret phone ringing.

Finding the device, he found text exchanges between the pair, confirming their affair behind Kerry and Paddy's backs and as he called the number, he heard Al's voice on the other end and saw red. Luring him to a barn, Al thought he'd be meeting with Chas amid their grand plan to ditch the village for good.

However, he was greeted by Cain with a shotgun. Words were exchanged between the pair before a scuffle broke out. The last viewers saw was on Monday night when the soap ended on a cliffhanger. There was a struggle between Al and Cain for the gun before a shot rang out.

And during Tuesday night's trip to the Dales (November 1), it was revealed that Al was the one who was fatally shot, leading to Michael Wildman's exit from the soap. A panicked Cain was then caught trying to wipe any evidence off of his gun by Al's partner Kerry stormed in after hearing the shot while trying to convince Chloe Harris to stay in the village.

She was shocked to find her partner dead on the ground before Cain fled the scene. Before he ran, he told her: "It's not what it looks like," as Kerry screamed at daughter Chloe to call the police and an ambulance. Cain was then frantically seen at home waiting for the police to arrive and saying his goodbyes to his wife Moira and his young kids, before armed police descended on the house.

He was then arrested on suspicion of murdering Al, and was watched by his shaken sister Chas who then went back to the Woolpack and informed her family, who were still at Faith's wake, of what Cain had done. Later, after being questioned at the police station, Cain was officially charged with Al's murder.

Meanwhile, Kerry, who had told the police all about Cain's long-standing feud with her late fiance, was watched by Chas as she returned home, unable to make it through the gate of the house she shared with Al as Chloe comforted her. Chas then broke down in tears in the distance.

But Emmerdale fans are sure Cain isn't responsible as they fear this is the end of the character. @Allthingsprank tweeted: "I reckon Aaron shot Al and Cain was trying to clear everything when Kerry came in .. too straight forward for soap land to be Cain #emmerdale." @gemilouisexo echoed: "There's no way Cain killed Al. I reckon he's covering for Aaron @emmerdale #emmerdale."

@MisTintehotbabe said: "What if Aaron some how knew Cain was gonna meet Al there and followed him and shot Al and Cain is covering up for him long shot I know but it’s a thought #Emmerdale." @BenthamFans commented: "Why have I got a feeling that Cain never killed Al and that Aaron did and Cain is protecting him? #Emmerdale."

On Cain's possible exit as he gets sent down for murder, @ballumshouse posted: "If Cain is leaving I’m actually done watching. I can’t lose Cain and Aaron in the same week #Emmerdale." @kimcuschieri typed: "Think Cain is covering for Aaron since he was wiping finger prints of gun, Cain can't be written off like that."

@jodieclaughton41 shared: "I swear Cain better not be leaving he the best one in it ." @helenlhenshaw said: "Will have to stop watching if Cain goes!" @r.a.20x added: "I swear if Cain goes down I will never watch Emmerdale again!!!"
