ITV Emmerdale fans 'work out' when and how Cain Dingle will be released from prison and predict second murder twist

Emmerdale fans are firmly on the 'free Cain Dingle' bandwagon as the character faces life in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Viewers of the ITV soap were shocked last week to see Cain standing over Al Chapman's dead body following a fight between the pair.

Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, saw red after he discovered his sister Chas was having an affair with Al during their mother, Faith's, wake. He used Chas' secret phone to lure Al to a barn where he threatened him with a shotgun. The pair broke into fisticuffs and in a scuffle for the gun, a shot rang out and it was later revealed that it was Al who had been fatally shot, leading to actor Michael Wildman's exit from the soap.

But at the end of last week, after pleading guilty to murder, Cain admitted to wife Moira that he didn't kill Al - and that it was his son Kyle. And during Monday night's trip to the Dales, flashback scenes showed the moment the 10-year-old, played by Huey Quinn, shot Al.

Kyle and Cain both relived the events of that day, with Cain telling a distressed Moira, played by Natalie J Robb, while Kyle, back at home, confessed to his mum Amy, portrayed by Natalie Ann Jamieson.

What viewers did see is Kyle following his angry dad to the barn where he witnessed him scrapping with Al. Spotting the gun, he grabbed it and told Al to leave his dad alone. The pair soon stopped fighting and pleaded with Kyle to put the gun down. But as the scared youngster stood with the weapon still in hand, Al lunged at him and the gun went off.

And the secrets and lies continued on Tuesday night (November 8) as Moira tried to act like nothing had happened while a panicked Amy was advised to go on the run with her son by Cain during a prison visit. In the end, Amy decided to stay put and she and Moira vowed for the truth to 'never come out'.

Kyle was the one who killed Al (ITV)

But Emmerdale fans know soaps all to well and think they have worked out when Cain will be released from prison - and how he'll be given his freedom back.

@tractorsrus713 said: "Which means it's the Christmas top story." @adrok80 posted: "Out by Christmas then." @mandyi61 echoed: "Christmas Story." @Matt528chap tweeted: "I'm calling it now-Kyle will end confessing before #Christmas happens leading to Cain's release And the exposure of Chas's affair which surely can't go on for too much longer."

And while some think Kyle may confess, others have another theory. @paulcrad127 said: "Kerry will take Kyle away & he returns next year aged 16!" @kaleidoscopelfc commented: "Laura Norton is going on maternity leave. I reckon she takes the blame for Kyle." @slimreet added: "Kerry has a friend who works on a cruise ship….guess who’s obviously getting a job on that same ship."

Fans think Moira could turn to murder (ITV)

Emmerdale fans are also speculating over another killer twist. Moira is still in the dark about why Cain lashed out at Al in the first place, with her husband claiming the shady businessman goaded him about his late mum and his family.

Taking to social media, one fan asked: "Why does Cain not want Moira to know about Chas and Al?" to which another replied: "Because Moria would rip her head off, and it would do no good." A third person agreed: "Because if Moira finds out Chas is dead for sure." Another added: "He doesn’t want her to end up in prison as well coz she will murder Chas."
