Rhona Goskirk was left heartbroken when Marlon Dingle turned her second proposal down. As Emmerdale fans already know, the pair did get engaged earlier in the year after the pair had both planned to pop the question.
The vet had planned to drop to one knee during Marlon's birthday party at The Woolpack after her first big gesture was scuppered. However, the chef had also planned to propose to his girlfriend with them both ended up doing at the same time.
Their joy, however, soon turned to horror. Marlon, played by Mark Charnock, skipped back home to collect the engagement ring he had forgotten when he became unwell and collapsed. After being rushed to hospital, it was confirmed Marlon has suffered a stroke and he had to undergo emergency surgery.

Since then viewers of the ITV soap have been watching Marlon's recovery which did feature a hospital setback a few months ago. The Dingle clan, however, has been rallying around and the Dales favourite has been seen making progress in learning to move for himself again with the help of a physiotherapist.
With things heading in a positive direction, and after her mum opened up to her about her own heartbreak and revealed to her daughter she is gay, Rhona decided it was time for her and Marlon to start wearing their engagement rings again and begin to look to the future.
She, therefore decided to propose again, not long after her other half managed to take his first step since his devastating stroke. After being left tired by his earlier achievement, Marlon had a sleep and Rhona set about giving the room a more romantic feel with fairy lights and candles.
However, it all ended in tears when Marlon rejected Rhona's proposal, telling her it felt more like pity than actual love. "I can't be what you need," he told her. Despite Rhona trying to explain that couldn't be further from the truth, Marlon got frustrated and upset, telling Rhona that he couldn't take her "pushing" him into such a big decision.
Clearly crushed, Rhona apologised and decided to leave the house. "Sorry, I made a mistake," she said as she hastily left, with her telling him she loved him just as she left the room before bursting into tears outside. Despite the upsetting scenes, Emmerdale fans were distracted by a health hazard.
