ITV Emmerdale fans say episode is 'hard to watch' as they say whose fault shooting was - and it's not Kyle

Emmerdale fans were left in tears during the latest episode as they were shown exactly what happened on the fateful day Al Chapman was killed. Fans of the ITV soap were already convinced that Cain Dingle wasn't responsible for Al's death after he was seen over his dead body in scenes aired last week.

Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, had learned of his sister's affair with his former enemy and discovering his sister's secret relationship with Al during their mother's wake saw the reformed bad boy's old ways return and he lured Al to a barn under false pretences. While Al thought he was meeting Chas, he was, however, confronted by Cain with a shotgun.

The pair ended up getting into a fight and in a scuffle for the gun, a shot rang out and it was later revealed that it was Al who had been fatally shot, leading to actor Michael Wildman's exit from the soap. But at the end of last week, after pleading guilty to murder, Cain admitted to wife Moira that he didn't kill Al - and that it was his son Kyle.

During the latest trip to the Dales on Monday night (November 7), viewers were treated to a series of flashback scenes that showed 10-year-old Kyle, played by Huey Quinn, shooting Al. Kyle and Cain both relived the events of that day, with Cain telling a distressed Moira, played by Natalie J Robb, while Kyle, back at home, confessed to his mum Amy, portrayed by Natalie Ann Jamieson.

Cain tried to get Moira to understand why he had to cover for Kyle, telling her to imagine it being their son Isacc who was in trouble. Meanwhile, Amy reassured her son that everything was ok and as he pleaded for his dad to come home now he had told the truth, she had to try and convince him to stay quiet.

What viewers did see is Kyle following his angry dad to the barn where he witnessed him scrapping with Al. Spotting the gun, he grabbed it and told Al to leave his dad alone. The pair soon stopped fighting and pleaded with Kyle to put the gun down. But as the scared youngster stood with the weapon still in hand, Al lunged at him and the gun went off.

Cain was heard telling Moira: "It was over in a flash. If I didn't try to grab that gun..." But she argued: "If there was no gun..." But Cain pleaded: "It was an accident, Kyle didn't mean to do it. You know what he's like. He's a gentle sweet kid, you wouldn't even know he was my son."

Emmerdale fans were full of praise for young actor Huey for the scenes and felt sorry for his character, even branding the episode a 'hard watch'. @sunnyg1rl05 tweeted: "Ah man this is hard to watch #Emmerdale." @chattymandan shared: "Kyle has told Amy he shot al poor Kyle this is so heart breaking and the one who plays Kyle is so brilliant in these scenes #emmerdale."

@EdithBeevers wrote: "Poor Kyle In Emmerdale. I could cry . I hope he gets the support he needs but they should tell the truth I hope x #emmerdale." @ajbarrett69 praised: "Outstanding storyline and acting from everyone involved in this episode tonight. The Young Lad who plays Kyle Take a bow young man. #Emmerdale."

But while they know Kyle pressed the trigger, some Emmerdale fans are arguing that it wasn't actually his fault. @trevorsroyle said: "Tbf al went to grab the gun and it made kyle jump so technically it’s his own fault he got shot #Emmerdale." @griannedoherty3 wrote "Sorry but WTF was Al thinking going for the gun? Yes Kyle's just a kid & he probably could of got it off him fairly easy but still rushing someone full on pointing a loaded shotgun at you is just plain stupid. Shouldn't of been loaded in the first place to be fair #Emmerdale."

@fluffyhairben posted: "Al went towards Kyle which made him shoot the gun that’s self defence was als own fault he got shot #emmerdale." But @DonnatellaSpace said: "#Emmerdale frustrating me... firstly Cain should not have gone to Al with a gun. He shouldn't have even bothered with a beating as Chas is a big ol woman who willingly opened her legs behind Paddy's back. Kyle could have killed himself which would be worse. For Chas!"
