There was a sigh of relief at the end of the latest episode of Emmerdale when it was revealed Dawn Fletcher hadn't risked her and her family's future. Earlier this week fans of the ITV soap saw Dawn and new husband Billy pay her ex-Alex a visit in a bid to get him to agree to let Billy adopt the former couple's son, Lucas.
The newlyweds were shocked when Alex agreed to let Billy adopt Lucas despite him landing him in hospital in scenes aired earlier this year.

However, it wasn't as it seemed as Alex was soon blackmailing Dawn, telling her he would not agree to Lucas's adoption unless she helped him with his drug debts after he relapsed when Billy left him battered and bruised.
He told her she needed to sell his drugs and raise some cash for him, however, she secretly recorded Alex's plan to get her to sell the drugs and in a twist, she had him arrested and was later seen leaving the police station with Harriet Finch to Billy and her dad Will Taylor's relief and confusion.
Prior to that, Dawn was desperately trying to get money out of Kim Tate's safe when she arrived home and wanted to know what was going on. Her boyfriend's daughter soon admitted to what was happening and Kim gave her the money she needed.
And Emmerdale fans were left baffled by Dawn's cash blunder as they pointed out she missed out asking Alex a key question.
@k_heyrab tweeted: "Did she even say how much he wanted?!? #Emmerdale Kim got cash for days. "So Dawn didn’t think to ask Alex how much he actually owed?! Christ! #Emmerdale," @WiniBoansi commented.
@LisaHemstock complained: "What are the scriptwriters on #emmerdale thinking? Dawn would have asked how much money was owing, not just guess? The characters on #emmerdale are being portrayed as stupid."
But while Dawn did end up doing the right thing by working with the police, Billy's adoption plans have been left in tatters. "I had a decision to make," she told Billy. "Either I did what Alex said, and give you the chance for adoption, or I do the right thing and send him to prison," she said, "It really wasn't [an easy decision]. But as soon as I knew that he was back in that world, I knew he couldn't be in ours. Billy, I am sorry, I know that this messes up the adoption."
