ITV’s British Soap Awards showed a special Memorium section on the ceremony this year which highlighted those who had died in recent times. The ceremony showed images of actors who had died and some clips of some of the actors performing on the soap’s they worked on in their life.
However, fans spotted a blunder as the British Soap Awards failed to include Emmerdale's Andy Devine who played Shadrach Dingle on the show. Andy Devine died earlier this year on January 27 at 79 years old.
Andy Devine, born Peter Devine died of pneumonia after suffering from a fall. He started acting on Emmerdale in 2000 and spent ten years on the rural TV soap. He went on to develop Shadrach Dingle as an iconic character on the soap, often marked by his scruffy, lazy appearance, who struggled with alcohol.
The first scene of Shadrach Dingle was first seen at the funeral of his nephew Butch, when he became drunk and fell asleep in church.

The Dingles in Emmerdale won the Best Family award at the British Soap Awards this year. When the Dingles cast went up to collect their award and say their speech, they dedicated the award to Andy Devine who was a key member of the Dingle family on screen.
Following this reactions started to spark. @powerspyin1 penned ‘#britishsoapawards i didn't know the actor who played Shadrach died’. Some people reached out to ask if they thought they had missed Andy in the Memorium section. @KatieHullPR tweeted Did I miss Andy Devine from the memoriam line up? #britishsoapawards’
Replying to this tweet, @CharlotteJPrice wrote ‘Nope, he wasn’t mentioned’. To this @KatieHullPR responded ‘I’m quite surprised. He’s an iconic person I think, you can’t beat Shadrach’.
Announcing this on their twitter, @AndyGibsonTV wrote ‘@AndyGibsonTV’ BREAKING NEWS: The award for #BestFamily has been awarded to #TheDingles in Emmerdale for ITV & STV. #JamesHooton, who plays Sam Dingle, dedicated the trophy to the late #AndyDevine who died earlier this year.’
@AMG_Review addressed this too by tweeting ‘The really awkward moment when an actor who’s died and gets mentioned in a speech ISN’T covered in the In Memoriam section #BritishSoapAwards'
