Emmerdale fans have been left asking 'why' after the latest trip to the village saw a shock hit-and-run take place. Viewers of the ITV soap were initially left confused when the tuned into Thursday's episode (March 30) when the opening scene showed Alex Moore (Liam Boyle) lying injured on the road after being mowed down by a car with a then-unknown driver.
As the confusion over what was going on began, the bloodied scene then jumped to show Billy and Dawn Fletcher getting ready for their court hearing where they would find out if they would keep custody of Dawn's son Lucas, and his half-sister Clemmie.
As they headed to court, Alex, who is the father of both children, was nowhere to be seen as he carried at his plan to steal drugs after his earlier plans to steal directly from inside the doctors surgery backfired.
As he was caught with bags of medical supplies in the boot of his car by vicar Charles Anderson, the judge gave Billy and Dawn sole custody of Lucas and Clemmie. The couple then went home to celebrate but their joy soon turned to horror.
Billy took the car to go and grab the family some fish and chips as Kim Tate cracked open the champagne at Home Farm. But suddenly, Alex was seen being ploughed to the ground by a car and when the driver emerged, it was Billy.
The terrified character got out to see what he had done before getting back in the car and heading home, leaving Alex for dead. He told Dawn what had happened and the pair headed back to assess the situation when they saw police had taped off the road.
And the twist after Billy and Dawn received the news they had been hoping for has got Emmerdale viewers flocking to comment. @9526charles said: "Gosh... They couldn't resist ruining Billy and Dawn's moment of happiness which lasted under 5 mins with this storyline."
@ingieglue commented: "Who cares about Alex. Why get lovely Billy to kill him. Dawn and he need peace." @marisajones3670 wrote: "Billy can’t go back to prison !! Why did it have to be billy." @jodyhaggard asked: "Why Billy??? Should've been the vicar!!"
@rh1n0g1rl posted: "Why have you done this to Billy. They were finally settled & you’ve gone & ruined it again." @mandy_k.sahdra_ added "First time they are actually happy then the happens no emmeedale no."
But it came after the were taking to social media to share their confusion over the flash-forward scene at the start of the episode which also happened again throughout the hour-long episode. @alecstation1 tweeted: "Just put #emmerdale on. 5 mins behind real time. WTF is going on. Is this one of those stupid flash back/forward things."
@teenamassam posted: "Confused my brain all these flash forwards and back…#emmerdale." @ChrisJW1987 added: "Emmerdale seems to be rather confusing with these flashforward scenes. The storyline would make more sense with just one flash forward scene. I'm finding it hard keeping up tbh #Emmerdale."
