Fans are chomping at the bit to see all the action Emmerdale has planned for its 50th anniversary after plenty of teasing from the ITV soap's producers and with the realse of brand new trailers. The build-up to the huge cataclysmic event has already begun but it isn't until the official birthday episode on October 16th that the action will really begin.
It was revealed back in August that the fictional Yorkshire village of Emmerdale will never be the same again after this month as a wind storm shakes up life in the Dales for every single resident. And Kim Tate and Will Taylor's wedding will kickstart all the drama that's to come.
Jane Hudson, Emmerdale's Executive Producer, has now revealed a little bit more about what's to come and appears to have confirmed a first in the show's five-decade history - a cow stampede.
"Of course in Emmerdale people expect to see massive stunts and we have plenty of those, but it’s also important to show those quiet moments, those intimate moments, the producer explained to us," she told the Manchester Evening News and other press. "We’re probably all more familiar with a loved one dying than we are with a cow stampede chasing us, so it’s important we connect with our viewers on that quieter, more peaceful level – and allow people to express emotions they maybe haven’t been able to do in their real life and they can do it through Emmerdale so balance is really key to us."
She added: "And there is always some humour in their despite all the odds, there’s still some humour in this month." That comes despite it being confirmed that the death of viewers' favourite Faith Dingle will air next week just before the storm hits.
Jane also revealed that the natural disaster will test not only the much-loved characters' physical strength but also their mental capabilities. Speaking about the stunt week she said it's "a rollercoaster of emotions, and there is a visual impact that will blow more than your socks off, put it that way."
She went on: "There's death, there's destruction but also real moments of intimacy, heartbreak and love. We're gonna see our characters tested not just by their physical strength, but their emotional strength as well. There’s gonna be a lot of tears, I must warn you about that, and we're gonna see our community have to deal with the aftermath of this horrific storm."
Jane explained how the seeds have already been planted for what's to come, and that the aftermath will last throughout the rest of the year - at least! "The month has started with Aaron's return, we've got the Faith story coming up which is incredibly sad and then into our storm, which we've got more than one stunt across the week," she said.
"And then when you just think things can't get any worse for our Emmerdale characters, they really, really do and we end the month on a really big bang that propels us well into the new year."
