ITV Dancing On Ice confirm Phillip Schofield's replacement to host show this weekend alongside Holly Willoughby

ITV Dancing On Ice have confirmed who will step in for Phillip Schofield during his absence from the show this weekend.

Stephen Mulhern has been pulled in to replace Phillip after he tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

Phillip has been absent from hosting This Morning this week whilst he isolates as Alison Hammond, Vernon Kay and Josie Gibson were each drafted in to replace him.

And now it has been revealed that Stephen will be brought in to host the ice-skating show on Sunday night alongside Holly Willoughby, as Phil remains in isolation.

This will be the first time in almost 20 years that Holly and Stephen have presented together since their days on children's television, with their last show being the Ministry of Mayhem back in 2006.

A spokesperson for ITV confirmed the news with a statement that read: "This Sunday's episode of Dancing on Ice will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern while Phillip Schofield continues to self-isolate."

In recent years, Stephen has been a presenter on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, In For a Penny, and co-presenter of The Next Great Magician.

Delighted to have been chosen for the role, Stephen said: "I’m very much looking forward to being back hosting alongside my good friend Holly this weekend. It’s big shoes to fill and I’m wishing Phillip a speedy recovery.

"I’m a big fan of Dancing on Ice and for one night only I’m thrilled to be rink side watching the action unfold. It’s going to be unbelievable."

Phillip, 59, was gutted on Monday as he revealed he had tested positive for coronavirus.

Sharing a picture of his positive test to his Instagram Story, he wrote: "Well b******s!!"

It came just hours after he hosted This Morning alongside Rochelle Humes, leading him to be replaced by Alison Hammond, Vernon Kay and Josie Gibson for the rest of the week.

The TV star did, however, get to join Rochelle and Alison via video link, appearing while showing his positive tests to the camera.

Former The Saturdays singer Rochelle asked him: "How are you doing? Just a sore throat or feeling any worse?"

Phillip, who was chilling in a grey hoodie, replied: “I’m fine. I haven't even got a sore throat now... I sneezed twice and that's it."

He then added: "I've got a slight temperature, but that's about it."

Dancing on Ice is on Sundays at 6pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
