ITV Corrie viewers in stitches over Summer's personality change in drug scenes

Coronation Street fans were amused to see a change in Summer Spellman after she spent some time in the kitchen with her boyfriend Aaron Sandford. The teen lovebirds were puzzling how to spend their time together when Aaron revealed to Summer that he had confiscated his abusive alcoholic dad’s wallet to stop him buying booze.

Aaron then pulled out a bag of cannabis as a worried Summer confided in him that she had once ended up in hospital after accidentally taking spice a few years ago. Aaron told her that they didn't have to smoke it and later her guardians Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimshaw found the giggly pair in the flat after feasting on freshly- baked weed brownies.

With the bishop due to visit any minute on the ITV soap, archdeacon Billy was appalled and sent them off to hide in the bedroom. Todd caught the bishop about to try one of the brownies and yelled at him to stop, but it was too late as he confessed he'd already eaten one.

After the bishop said he felt as though his stresses and strains had 'melted away', Todd drove him home as Billy lectured on the dangers of drugs. Coronation Street viewers took to Twitter to commented on the difference in the usually solemn 18-year-old.

@Deew04 said: "Summer should do that more often, first time she's laughed in 3 yrs...." And @Sally33903769 wrote: "Stoned Summer is at least fun." @Cinders12345678 remarked: "Best scene summer has been in for a very very long time!! So hilarious haha high as kites." And @Clawmaw tweeted "Summer is happy and laughing for a change!"

@Sasha_Rose_ said: "Give Summer a special brownie more often, actually cracks face." And @CxxPIPxx commented: "Seven hells, they had to get her stoned for her to crack a smile."

But @RyanGSoapKing11 warned: "Summer needs to think about her diabetes. Taking drugs could of messed with her blood sugar levels etc" And @beginningwithm begged: "Corrie please don't make Summer a drug addict."

In August Summer was treated to a slap-up meal for her 18th birthday by her three dads Billy, Todd and Paul Foreman, and she had a typically gloomy time on the cobbles.

Over her celebratory lunch at Speed Daal, Billy handed Summer a letter which her late dad Drew Spellman had asked him to give her on her 18th. Far from being thrilled, Summer ended up walking out on her lunch.

She was in for another unnerving surprise when Billy revealed to the diabetic teen that her nurse had called to confirm she was eligible for a glucose monitor. Summer was upset that Billy and Aaron Sandford had gone behind her back.

After rowing with Aaron she met her friends at the cafe and was presented with a vegan carrot cake made for her by Nina Lucas. But the thoughtful treat failed to bring a smile to her face and she walked out again saying she was in no mood for a party.

Summer, who lives with the eating disorder diabulimia after being diagnosed with type one diabetes last year, has been through a harrowing time while battling with her health and pressure to pass her A levels exams to get into Oxford University.

She got A*s in French and maths but failed English after being disqualified for cheating. She decided not to go to university and to get a job at the Underworld factory instead.

Then as Aaron came to collect her for their holiday she collapsed, causing them to miss their flight. Aaron was shocked to learn that she had been playing a dangerous game by skipping her insulin to control her weight.

The bishop had a brownie (ITV)

Back in 2017 Summer was left fighting for life after smoking the ‘zombie’ drug Spice. She collapsed after she was dared by Simon Barlow to try the aggressively addictive drug.

The following year her guardian Billy became hooked on painkillers following a horror fall that temporarily left him in a wheelchair. His addiction descended into taking the Class-A drug heroin in church to ease his pain.

Billy plunged off a cliff edge after being kidnapped by Peter Barlow when he found out that his neighbour was responsible for the death of his sister Susan. After the accident Billy's addict brother Lee supplied him with heroin, though Billy eventually beat his addiction.
