One of Jack P Shepherd's Coronation Street co-stars has said 'God help us' as she realised there are now two Jack's - or two David Platts. The actor is famed for playing the reformed bad boy in the ITV soap having joined when he was 12 years old more than 20 years ago.
On Thursday (October 20), Jack ditched Manchester for a special trip to Blackpool as he was officially immortalised in wax at the seaside resort's Madame Tussauds and it was the soap star who got to personally unveil the new figure. The 34-year-old came face to face with his wax version for the first time alongside his mum, Janet, and girlfriend, Hanni Treweek.
He got his first glimpse at the figure as artists made the final touches, adding those all-important freckles, skin texture, and all the tiny details that make the figures so unbelievably lifelike. And in taking residence at Madame Tussauds on Blackpool’s famous promenade, the new 'David Platt' joins some of the most iconic characters from Coronation Street, including Jack and Vera, Bet Lynch, Deirdre and Ken, and Michelle Connor.
After pictures were released from the unveiling, with one showing Jack open-mouthed as he was greeted by his own waxwork, the soap star took to Instagram with a snap of him posing just like his new doppelganger. " I'm honoured to announce I’ve been made into a waxwork at Madame Tussaud’s!
"How mad is that! The model is in @mtblackpool as of now. So pleased, thank you to everyone that was involved with the process I love you forever. You’ve made me so happy." He then shared a selfie video of him and the new David, setting it to a Stranger Things theme.
And his Corrie co-star, both past and present, and celebrity pals were quick to respond. Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor in the ITV soap, joked: "Two of you. God help us. It looks incredible though!!!! Congratulations." Craig Tinker actor Colson Smith, who also co-hosts the Sofa Cinema Club podcast with Jack, raved: "BEST WAX WORK EVER."
Samia Longchambon, who stars as Corrie's Maria Windass, wrote: " Bloody brilliant!" Tyrone Dobbs actor Alan Halsall replied: " That is AMAZING." Michelle Keegan, who starred as Jack's on-screen partner Tina McIntyre in the soap, posted: "Amazing Jack!!!!!!" Current on-screen wife Julia Goulding, aka Shona Platt, typed: "This is absolutely fantastic!"
Former EastEnders actor Dean Gaffney shared: "Next level that." Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the Yorkshire soap, commented: "This is SO good!" Bradley Johnson, who stars in Emmerdale as Vinny Dingle, also wrote: "Wow!!!! That’s unreal." While renowned write Russell T Davies added: "God that’s good!"
As well as his celebrity followers, Jack's girlfriend Hanni also shared a gushing message: "I’m so happy for you!! I know how much this means to you & it’s such an incredible achievement, congratulations to @mtblackpool @madametussauds the waxwork is so authentic, I know you’ll look after him (well David Platt) but I’ll always love the person who plays him."
She also posted the photo to her own Instagram Story and shared how she was "so proud" of her man and how she was "completely blown away" by how "real" the waxwork was.
