ITV Corrie's Tony Maudsley tells Victoria Beckham to 'move over' as he 'inspires' Sam Smith's latest fashion statement

Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has issued a fashion warning to Victoria Beckham after he appeared to inspire Sam Smith's latest fashion choice. The pop star has had fans hooked as they enjoyed a break in Australia and posted update to their Instagram page.

Sam, whose hits include Stay With Me and Unholy shared a heartwarming message for fans from Down Under on New Year’s Eve. In a video on Instagram, they said: "Happy new year everyone, and I can’t wait for next year and I just wanna say thank you to you all from the bottom of my heart for all the love you’ve given this music this year, and I’ve never felt so free and so excited about the future and about what I do, the art that I make and it’s all because of you.

"I really hope you’re having a beautiful day and I hope you have an amazing Near Year’s eve and I hope you’re safe and I’ll see you on the next one, it’s Gloria time, I can’t wait. I love you."

It came after Sam, who is gearing up to release fourth album Gloria at the end of January, shared snaps of themself frolicking in the sea in leopard print bikini bottoms which quickly caught the eyes of their countless followers. "Always wear sun cream," they captioned the cheeky post.

But the singer's latest attire while browsing the delights of Sydney appeared to catch the eye of actor Tony, who stars in Corrie as George Shuttleworth. And it appears Sam's yellow shirt and tiny denim shorts reminded the soap star of the character he played long before appearing on the cobbles.

Sharing a picture of Sam alongside a picture of himself as his Benidorm alter ego, Kenneth Du Beke, which had been posted by Sam on their own official Facebook page, Tony wrote: "Sam's on it. Stand aside Victoria Beckham...a new fashion house is about to be born! #SmithDuBeke."

And fans were absolutely loving it. @Lshire_Laird said: "I absolutely [love] that @samsmith is able to poke fun at themselves. Iconic, powerful move." @Shaun1878_ replied: "Must feel great, seeing a world famous singer copying your looks." @KerryTaylor75 wrote: "I can see the cover of Vogue now!!! #SmithDuBeke."

It comes after 54-year-old Tony posted an image of himself as Kenneth on Twitter alongside one of the shots of Sam to point out the similarity with his chosen outfit to welcome in 2023 and penned: "Now even pop stars want the look.," before adding 'influencer' in a hashtag.

Benidorm writer Derren Litten also posted the same pictures on his Instagram, asking "who wore it best?" alongside the similar snaps – tagging Sam's tune I'm Not The Only One.
