In the soap Elle's character has been central to the drama after holding a protest over an upskirting scandal at Weatherfield High School.
Elle joined the Corrie cast in 2010, taking over from Amber Chadwick who previously played Amy the daughter of Steve McDonald and Tracy Barlow.
And her character is set to gain a love interest on the cobbles in the shape of Jacob Hay played by Jack James Ryan.
Jacob was part of a gang running drugs under the cover of food deliveries and he roped in Amy's cousin Simon to work with him for drugs lord Harvey Gaskell.
Simon's mum Leanne Battersby became an informant for the police, helping to put Harvey behind bars before he escaped prison to seek revenge on the family, shooting dead Natasha Blakeman in a a case of mistaken identity.
Corrie viewers will see Jacob strike up a relationship with Amy, despite what he did to her cousin.
The soap's executive producer Iain MacLeod previously said that it's 'Meet the Parents' scenario done Corrie style as Amy brings him home to meet Tracy and Steve.
"We're pairing him (Jacob) up with someone whose historically quite well-behaved and wouldn't say boo to a goose and is quite sensible given her genetic provenance and that's Amy Barlow," Iain says.
"We thought how would Tracy and Steve react to her suddenly ending up in a romantic relationship with possibly the most unsuitable boyfriend they've ever heard of."
He says the popular couple will do everything they can to steer Amy away from Jacob - from reverse psychology to cutting her off financially - with "increasing failure".
"All of these things make things worse and worse to comedy effect and in the end, they have to bite the bullet and get on with this lad," Iain adds.
