ITV Corrie's Aaron actor James Craven says 'we didn't plan it' as he twins with co-star amid harrowing storyline

Coronation Street star James Craven has quipped 'we didn't plan it' as he rocked up to a work event in an almost identical outfit to his co-star. The actor, who plays Aaron Sandford in the ITV soap, and Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney were among the show's cast heading to a get-together at what appeared to be the Salford-based studios.

Elle took to Instagram with a brilliant snap of her and James posing next to the soap's iconic Paperboy statue which viewers are used to seeing located outside The Kabin. The pair struck the same pose as the newspaper on the statue read: "Welcome to the Corrie cast, writers and directors get together!"

But eyes were quickly drawn to their outfits as the soap stars bother sported black trousers and leather jackets with the only difference being that Elle had opted for white trainers while James sported dark shoes.

Elle simply shared the post with a string of peace sign emojis before tagging her co-star while James reshared the post and typed to his own followers: "We didn't plan it..."

The sweet snap comes amid a harrowing storyline for the pair. Earlier this month, Corrie viewers watched in horror as Amy was raped by Aaron, her best friend's boyfriend. The flatmates were seen bonding over drinking games after they both fell out with Aaron's girlfriend Summer Spellman.

The pair ended up kissing in Amy's bedroom as she went to find more alcohol, and when she complained of feeling sick and passed out asleep Aaron preyed on her. When Amy woke up to find herself alone in the flat, she found a note saying 'drink me' with a glass of water left by Aaron, who believed their night together was consensual.

Hungover and with no memory of how she got into bed, Amy was distraught to see her underwear on the floor along with the discarded drink bottles. Later, having made up with Summer, Aaron caught up with Amy in the street and begged her to forget about their 'drunken sex.'

But when Amy asserted that she was far too drunk to consent, Aaron tried to convince her that she wanted sex as much as he did and that they were equally responsible for what happened. But Amy knew he was lying and dismissed his claim that it was just a "drunken mistake."

"I didn't want it," she told him in powerful scenes. "I can barely remember the night but from what I do remember I was leathered, too drunk to stand up. I can't remember anything after kissing. So if I can't remember it how can I have possibly been in any state to consent?"

Amy has been struggling (ITV)

Amy has since been keeping her distance from both Aaron and Summer, moving back to Number 1 Coronation Street with her mum, Tracy Barlow, and grandad Ken. She has also kept her ordeal a secret but next week, Amy reveals to her family that she was raped. As the teen stands awkwardly in her bridesmaid dress ahead of Daisy Midgeley and Daniel Osbourne's wedding, Adam Barlow gives her a friendly squeeze.

But Amy flinches and it doesn’t go unnoticed by Simon. However, when he tries to broach the subject, Amy snaps at him and her mum Tracy clocks their exchange. The truth later comes out when Summer reads a text on her boyfriend Aaron's phone. The message suggests to Amy they put things behind them, and Summer demands to know what’s going on.

Stealing himself, Aaron says they slept together the night they broke up. But he protests that it was a one-off and they both regret it. Summer confronts Amy who bursts into tears and assures her she’s got it all wrong before telling Tracy that Aaron raped her. Tracy’s horrified as Amy describes how she passed out drunk and Aaron took advantage of her.

Heartbroken Steve and Tracy urge Amy to report Aaron to the police. With Tracy for support, Amy enters the police station and says she wants to report a rape. When Summer strides over to her former friend and demands that Amy apologise for sleeping with Aaron, Amy reveals that Aaron raped her. Summer is shocked and accuses Amy of lying, but Amy explains she never consented to sex with Aaron and the police are taking her allegation seriously. But having scrutinised Amy’s phone, DS Swain asks some awkward questions making Amy feel like the guilty party.
