ITV Corrie murderer exposed but viewers think they spotted blunders

Coronation Street fans were confused after a killer was finally revealed with a big twist. In shock scenes, the identity of the person who killed young waitress Charlie Walter was disclosed, and many viewers weren't expecting it.

Soap watchers are aware that chef Stu Carpenter served 27 years for murder after being wrongly imprisoned for the death of Charlie, who he was having an affair with. After being released from prison he ended up jobless and homeless.

Last year he was befriended by teen Kelly Neelan, who helped to get him off the streets, and he found employment as a chef at Speed Daal and a home at 6 Coronation Street with restaurant owner Yasmeen Nazir. Yasmeen, her granddaughter Alya and solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey have been fighting to clear his name for the murder and he has also been reunited with his daughter Bridget Woodrow and met his granddaughter Eliza for the first time, which was met with strong disapproval from his ex wife Lucy.

In emotional scenes in Wednesday night's episode (October 12), Bridget and Eliza were enjoying brunch with Yasmeen and Stu. But as Eliza asked Stu about life in prison, it became too much for Bridget who ran out to the garden, and the dark truth came tumbling out.

"You don't understand it was me. I killed Charlie," she confessed after Stu tried to comfort her. Bridget told how she got the bus to see her dad after his shift, with a clay model she made of her dog Albert.

But she was heartbroken to see her dad in his car with Charlie and after Stu drove away she confronted his mistress who was seated at the nearby bus stop reading her book. After a heated exchange, Bridget took the Clay model and, as Bridget bent over, she attacked her with it.

And then came another twist as Bridget revealed her mum had also been involved. "There was no pulse. She wasn't breathing. I was scared. So scared so I called mum," she recalled. It emerged mother and daughter had taken Charlie's body from the bus stop and left her in a shallow grave in woodland, and Bridget said her mum had begged her to keep it a secret.

"I've been thinking about this moment for 34 years. Tell the police tell everyone," she told Stu. @ifeelflames gasped on Twitter: "Ooooh, was sure it was going to be Stu’s wife who did it, not his daughter!"

Many viewers didn't see this twist coming (ITV)

@_Ce_Ce__ exclaimed: "Woah! Did not see that coming." @sixtiesoldgit remarked: "Well that’s a turn up for the books." And @humbug83 commented: "Ooh I thought it was gonna be her mum, not her!"

But viewers were puzzled by Bridget's age in this story. @ElvisyGary asked: "Didn’t Stu serve 27 years? His daughter can’t be more than 40 and stu has been free a couple years. She must’ve been about 10 when she killed her."

@Bob71136804 asked: "Oh come on seriously? She must have been about five years old! Who is writing this stuff."@stevebethere observed: "Crikey no matter what age they are in soaps they still murder people." And @Louise49673572 asked: "How old was Bridget when she killed Stu’s girlfriend? Even her scissors would be child safety."

When Stu broke the bombshell news to Yasmeen she also puzzled: "How could it be her, she was a child?" But he said: "Lucy helped her to cover it up" and told Yasmeen that his daughter had been a teenager at the time.

Other viewers questioned how the crime wasn't seen. @bridie_gray wondered: "How did a woman and a child get a dead body from a bus stop to the woods at early evening without being seen?" @sumac8 tweeted: "Mother & daughter moving a body …. From a bus stop! You don’t see that everyday." @kev_g63 remarked: "So a young kid killed her at the bus stop and he got the blame?" And @DionPetrie mused: "And no one saw anything."
