Coronation Street fans were left asking the same question after Adam Barlow plunged from a balcony in a dramatic showdown with his ex Lydia Chambers.

But things a dramatic turn in the soap when Lydia noticed Adam was recording their conversation on his mobile phone.

Lydia, who has wrecked his marriage to Sarah Platt by claiming they have been having an affair, jogged his memory about their time dating back at university and how badly he treated her.

She told how she was left seeking an abortion alone when she fell pregnant at the age of 19.

During the angry confrontation she slapped Adam.

And as he went to stop her from walking away she shoved her ex over a first-floor railing.

His uncle Daniel Osbourne, played Rob Mallard, looked up to see Adam crashing to the ground next to him.

As Adam lay unconscious fans were distracted as they commented on the surprising lack of people in the shopping centre and wondered if it was a mistake.

@Thecaseisalter1 fumed: "Totally ridiculous to expect us to believe that the shopping centre would be so empty.

"Yes it was closing time but there would at least be a security guard or two patrolling the place.

"Don't take the viewers to be idiots!"

@GladysMullagh asked: "Are these pair the only 2 in this shopping centre?"

@Jamal06122771 tweeted: "What type of shopping centre is that? No security, no staff, no people? #Corrie #coronationstreet."

@adamjwadd said: "Empty shopping centre, no CCTV or staff.. Lazy writing."

And @SoapQueen86 wondered: "It's not a very busy shopping centre, is there even anyone else in it or conveniently just them?"

The fall was branded 'spectacular' by other viewers with @felpetai gasping: "My mother is traumatised!"

@ConversationStr said: "Whoops! That’s quite a spectacular fall, Adam!"

@Evan_Slater02 exclaimed: "WOOOWWWWWWW that was some fall Adam."

On Wednesday Daniel and Adam's grandfather Ken are told that he has suffered a bleed behind the eye and needs an operation to save his sight.

As they quiz Adam about his fall, suggesting Lydia’s to blame, Adam claims he doesn’t remember.
