Jaws dropped as Coronation Street fans watched Max Turner lured back to Griff Reynolds' home. Corrie viewers thought they spotted the return of a popular character as Max was introduced to a group of new friends by eco activist Griff.
Coronation Street is to highlight the issue of the grooming of impressionable young men in a hard-hitting storyline involving Max being targeted by Griff. A vulnerable Max, played by Paddy Bever, is targeted by a gang of extremists ultimately putting his own life and that of his friends and family in danger.
Griff, played by Michael Condron, has turned his attention to troubled Max who has been the victim of persistent school bullies since losing his place at Weatherfield High. Griff stepped in and threatened to teach the bullies a lesson and in doing so won Max’s trust.

In the coming months, as Max becomes more estranged from his family, the teenager falls under the spell of Griff who uses Max’s video and computer skills to spread their racist propaganda. In Wednesday night's episode (November 2) Max was led over to meet a girl of a similar age named Lauren, and fans were stunned by her resemblance to Kelly Neelan, played by Millie Gibson.
@mishybabez_ said: "I thought that girl was Kelly then." @29JHall exclaimed: "Lauren is the new Kelly!" And @homebrew19721 asked: "Is this new girl kelly 2.0?"
@AntMelia94 demanded to know: "What the multiverse of Kelly Neelan is going on with that girl?"And @RyanGSoapKing11 remarked: "That girl looks just like Kelly."
Kelly bowed out of Weatherfield last month after three years in the ITV soap. After planning to bump off her guardian Gary Windass in revenge for killing her loan shark dad Rick Neelan in 2019, her plot backfired and saw her own life hanging in the balance as she was taken captive by hitman Kieron.
After Gary was taken back to the scene of his own crime and forced to dig his own grave, Kelly had a change of heart and Gary managed to get away. In turn Kieron kidnapped Kelly and as Gary rushed to save her, they were both at risk on top of a building overlooking Manchester.
It was all almost over for Gary and Kelly when Kieron said he'd kill them both and waved a gun at them. However, Kelly's fiance Aadi Alahan was shot as he jumped in the path of the gun to save her.
Thankfully Aadi survived. But realising she was a 'toxic' influence on his life, Kelly gave him back his engagement ring and decided to make a new start on her own.
