ITV Coronation Street superfan who's 'not missed episode for years' proposes on famous cobbles

A romantic Coronation Street superfan sprung a surprise on his partner as he proposed to him on the famous cobbles.

Adam Latham, 29, popped the question to partner Bailey Lister, 19, outside the Rovers Return Inn during a tour of the Corrie set on Saturday (December 10).

The couple, who live in Blackpool, are avid followers of the ITV soap and Adam has not missed an episode for years.

“I was planning on doing it up Blackpool Tower but I didn’t think it would be very romantic,” said Adam. “We’re massive Corrie fans.

"I was a kid when I first started watching Corrie and I’ve not missed an episode for years. Even if we are not in, it’s always recorded on Sky.”

Property manager Adam, who is originally from Northwich in Cheshire, enlisted the help of staff on Coronation Street: The Tour to ensure the proposal went smoothly.

Adam popped the question outside the Rovers Return Inn (Coronation Street: The Tour)

“It took about two-and-a-half months of planning, getting the rings and trying to keep it a secret," he said.

“He [Bailey] knew we were going to Manchester but he thought he was meeting my parents and we were going to the Christmas markets.

“It was a hard lie to tell but thankfully he said yes. It was definitely a relief because the nerves had kicked in by then."

While on set, the pair also met Jack James Ryan, who plays Jacob Hay in Corrie.

Photographs and video taken by staff on the set captured the romantic moment when Adam got down on one knee.

He said he chose to propose outside the Rovers as he regards it as the ‘most iconic’ part of the Coronation Street set.

“There have been some famous proposals in there so I thought it was the best place on the set to do it,” Adam explained.

“It was nice to be there and see it in person. We just had loads of fun and we were so looked after and welcomed."

Coronation Street’s Christmas on the Cobbles Tour runs until December 31 and is packed full of festive throwbacks from the show.

Corrie lovers can enjoy an expert guided tour of the set with a festive twist, featuring a look back at some of the iconic scenes from Christmases past and festive hot drinks and treats.
