Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has been flooded with requests for her to stay on the cobbles amid fears she's leaving following the climax of the extremist storyline. Viewers of the ITV soap were horrified earlier this week when Alya Nazir was caught up in an explosion.
For months now fans have been frustrated by Griff and his extremist gang's presence on the famous street which also saw them groom troubled youngster Max Turner into joining them. And while it is clear they were planning something big, it wasn't too clear what until scenes aired earlier this week.
Max, with the help of his girlfriend Lauren Lauren Bolton, who is the daughter of one of Griff's racist mates, realised something bad was going to happen and sprung into action. The step-son of David Platt rushed to the opening of the peace markets, which was Maria's plan to help refugees, and pleaded with Alya and Yasmeen to listen to his warnings and after admitting to seeing the Speed Dahl van out on some wasteland before appearing back on the street.
After initially ignoring Max, seeing it as his latest ploy to cause trouble, the pair finally decided to listen and checked the van. They couldn't see anything until Alya climbed up into the driver's seat and had a look around. She spotted an exposed wire and after giving it a slight tug, a timer dropped from the glovebox and they quickly realised the van was minutes away from exploding.
Fearing what was about to happen, instead of waiting for the police like her grandmother begged, Alya decided to jump in the car and drive off, hoping she could get the van to where less people were at risk of getting hurt before the timer ticked down. Later, she arrived at an area of wasteland with just seconds to spare and ended up out cold on the floor from the explosion.
Later, Max was seen heading to the police station to answer questions while Griff still appeared to be at large. Following the horror scenes, Cati took to Instagram with a cryptic post which showed her posing in her own ITV puffer coat outside the Rovers Return.
Alongside the black and white image, similar to the one she used to mark her arrival onto Corrie, Cait typed: "Was a dream… still is a dream." And while her friends were quick to share their pride, fans were worried about what it meant and pleaded for her to stay on the cobbles.
@erla_loveee said: "Noooo does this mean you're leaving?" @peterrees51 replied: "I hope your staying in the soap." @milliesstreet added: "Hope u stay and ur character changes her way." Cait made her debut on the soap as Lauren back in November.
And fans were quickly stunned by her resemblance to Kelly Neelan, who was played by Millie Gibson and who exited the soap in September. @mishybabez_ said: "I thought that girl was Kelly then." @29JHall exclaimed: "Lauren is the new Kelly!" And @homebrew19721 asked: "Is this new girl kelly 2.0?"
@AntMelia94 demanded to know: "What the multiverse of Kelly Neelan is going on with that girl?"And @RyanGSoapKing11 remarked: "That girl looks just like Kelly."
