ITV Coronation Street star's shock as Toyah admits to killing Imran in car crash confession

It’s been a long time coming but Toyah Habeeb will finally admit to purposely crashing her car and killing her new husband, Imran, in Coronation Street.

Fans of the ITV soap were horrified in June when it appeared to be confirmed that Toyah was responsible for the crash that killed the solicitor. The pair had faced a difficult time before their marriage after it was revealed that Imran was the father of Abi Webster's surprise baby, who she named Alfie.

In shock scenes, Imran saved his wife's life just weeks after they said 'I Do' after they became trapped in their car after it plowed into a scaffolding-clad building. But as Toyah was bundled into an ambulance, it was Imran who collapsed and died at the scene from a cardiac arrest.

And now facing the prospect of prison time for murder, Toyah’s conscience eats away at her and she confesses the truth to returned love interest Spider Nugent. Next week, fans will see Abi asks Toyah if she’d like to have Alfie for a couple of hours ahead of her trial.

Later, an emotional Toyah cries over Alfie’s pram, telling him how sorry she is for taking his daddy away. Back at home Leanne walks in to hear Toyah confessing to Spider that she lied to the police, crashed the car on purpose and intended to kill Imran.

As both Spider and Leanne reel, what will they do with Toyah’s confession? Meanwhile, Toyah actress Georgia Taylor has shared her surprise at discovering that Toyah did intend to crash the car, revealing she didn’t know what had happened as they didn’t film the crash itself.

Asked if she was shocked about discovering what Toyah did, Georgia told the Manchester Evening News and other press: “Yes and I’ll tell you why. When I’ve had all these communications over the last few months and even last year with our producer Iain [MacLeod] and Charlie [De Melo, who played Imran], about out storylines, he told us what was going to happen, that there was going to be an accident, Imran was going to die and there was going to be a ‘was it Toyah’s fault or not’ storyline.

“But he also talked about the ambiguity of it and it being a grey area between whether someone’s guilty or not guilty and we were going to explore the complications of that so I came away thinking I don’t completely know if she did it or not then as the scripts have come in, I’ve still not been completely sure what happened in that moment as we didn’t film that moment.”

She went on: “When we filmed the stunt and all those scenes on location, those few seconds where the impact happens, we never shot that and so it wasn’t very clear to me where it exactly goes. So it was only really confirmed when I got that batch of scripts you are talking about.”

But Georgia, from Wigan, still appears to be on her character’s side. “So yeah, she did [do it]… I still think it’s a grey area and I still think it’s interesting because she didn't get in the car meaning to kill him or hurt him, absolutely not. The way I’m trying to understand it is that she had a few seconds where the red mist descended and she just lost her mind for a second. I guess in the same way someone could punch someone in a moment of rage or despair… I’ve never punched anyone myself so I don’t know exactly what that moment is.”

As well as that, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has already teased that Spider has something to hide and that Toyah has made a ‘huge mistake’ in confiding in him. "She reaches this huge emotional crisis point," he told us.

"She’s got this burning desire to repent or just find some kind of catharsis and she ends up unburdening herself entirely to Spider - talking in detail for the first time about what went on behind the wheel of that car and how much of it was an accident and how much was deliberate," Iain says of Toyah.

While Toyah believes she’s confiding in the right person, Iain teases that she looks set to be totally wrong. “At that time, he’s the worse conceivable option in terms of who she should be confessing to,” Iain told us. “The idea is that she’s head over heels in love with this guy again and feels like he’s her one true friend in the world and she might not be wrong but she’s certainly making a huge mistake in confiding all this to him.”
