ITV Coronation Street star Millie Gibson looks fresh-faced posing in dressing room as she 'quits' soap

Coronation Street star Mille Gibson is reportedly set to leave the cobbles in upcoming scenes, three years after making her debut as Kelly Neelan. The actress has been part of many hard-hitting storylines since arriving in Weatherfield.

But it appears pastures new is calling Millie as she is reported to have quit the ITV soap months after picking up her first major award. And the 18-year-old is rumoured to be bowing out of the soap in an "explosive" storyline later this year.

According to The Sun, Kelly could finally uncover the truth about killer Gary Windass, and the fact he allowed her dying mother Laura Neelan to take the blame for his crime. A Corrie source said: "Millie's a huge talent. She has loved her time on the soap but there’s a lot of excitement about what she’s going to do next.

“Everyone has been sworn to secrecy over her exit storyline. It’s going to be explosive. Millie’s not even telling people if the door has been left open for her." The Manchester Evening News has connected Corrie reps for comment.

It comes after ITV teased what is to come on the famous street as it revealed what is to come on the network over the autumn. Corrie has teased that family matters will dominate the coming months with returning relatives, couples in crisis and shocking secrets causing chaos on the cobbles.

The clock has been ticking for Gary Windass ever since he took in the teenage daughter of the man he murdered. Increasingly seeing Gary as a father figure, Kelly Neelan was left further indebted to Gary when he rescued her from the clutches of dad Rick’s shady associates in scenes aired in July.

But having witnessed how far Gary is willing to go to keep her safe, Kelly starts to wonder if he has crossed that line before. Meanwhile, Gary’s wife Maria continues to struggle with the unwanted online attention her council work has brought and Gary is determined to protect her. But Is Gary’s past about to catch up with him?

Meanwhile, as rumours of her possible exit swirl, Millie, from Broadbottom, was hard at work and took to Instagram with a selfie from her dressing room. The teen was prepping to film on the Salford-based set as she posed for a mirror snap on Tuesday morning (August 2).

She showed off her blonde locks which had been styled into a platt while donning a red 'Looney Tunes' t-shirt and holding up a mug, getting in a warm drink before her day at work begins. Millie commented: "Early morning do-up," before tagging Corrie's make-up team and adding the time as 6.58pm.

Millie shot to fame in the role of Kelly Neelan on the ITV soap and hasn't been short of challenging, dramatic, and emotional storylines. She was part of the shocking hate crime storyline, inspired by the tragic story of Sophie Lancaster who was killed in 2007, which saw Kelly find herself charged with a murder she didn't commit after Seb Franklin died from his injuries when he and his girlfriend Nina Lucas were set upon by Corey Brent and his mates.

Thanks to Nina, played by Mollie Gallagher, Tanisha Gorey's character Asha Alahan, and Stu Carpenter (Billy Fellows), Kelly was eventually cleared as Corey finally got his comeuppance. But the teen ended up homeless upon her release after a stay in sheltered accommodation ended with her being targeted.

More recently, the character found out about her dad's death days before her mum Laura Neelan - played by Kel Allen - also died from cancer, in tragic scenes, after taking the wrap for her husband Rick's murder so that the real culprit, Gary Windass, could be her guardian with wife Maria.

Earlier this year Millie took home the prize for Best Young Performer at the British Soap Awards last month. As she got on stage to collect her first major award, the soap star said she had been 'unbelievably lucky' to have been given the 'most hard-hitting and compelling' storylines adding, that she'll be 'forever honoured'.
